2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - paintedblue2 - 12-07-2014 10:35 PM

Since we are now a basketball school again we should have a 2016 recruiting thread.

I know there are other 2016 offers out there so feel free to add players. I saw a retweet by odubleedblue that said ODU just offered 2016 guard Jeremy Sheppard from John Marshall HS and Team Loaded AAU.

I am really glad that JJ is extending lots of offer to high quality recruits, and that we are hearing about them. It seemed that recruiting was always so hush-hush with BT. Another refreshing difference.

I'll stick this one as well.

According to ESPN, there's another player considering us:

SG Curtis Jones
Highland Springs, VA - Huntington Prep
6'2" / 170lbs

ESPN also lists C Edrice Adebayo, the 5-star from Pinetown, NC, but he's got P5 offers and he has already taken an official visit to Memphis. Either a clerical error or completely unrealistic.

Certainly a long shot Cameraman but read this from Ed Miller just a week ago.

Interesting. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Certainly would love to land Coleman but it isn't happening. Clearly states UVA and UCONN are his top two schools. He has people around him who are in his ear about going to Wahoo Wa (Cornell Parker who played at UVA and is an assistant at Maury). Adebayo is pretty much signed, sealed and delivered to UNC. No shot on that front.

It is certainly great to go after these guys and sooner or later we will land one.

Chris Orlina 6'5" SF is in play from Woodside. Was on the Boo Williams B team. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at ODU.

It was nice to see Cornell Parker was in attendance at the ODU Tip Off Dinner last month. Seems the ODU coaches are doing a lot of good things on the long range planning front. Got make the connections with these kids when they are young and you just never know. One day one of these top shelf players may just want to stay home and help start a trend at ODU.

I started following ODU basketball in 1972. People have been saying this since then and probably before.

Petey Sessoms averaged 32 points a game for Craddock HS and became a Monarch. Odell Hodge, the leading scorer in Virginia HS history and had half the ACC after him became a Monarch too. It has happened before and can happen again.

True, but they did not exactly open any flood gates.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - ODU True Blue - 12-09-2014 09:45 AM

Odell was a VA kid but can't be considered local. He was from Martinsville.

I don't know Sessoms back story. Everyone, including ODU, was on Odell until word got out that he had a learning disability and wasn't likely to pass the SAT. Then they all dropped him, except ODU. When he passed it, they all came back, but he stuck with ODU because of its loyalty to him (Tic Price I believe). That's the story he told my wife's 7th grade class his senior year at ODU when he came to speak. And, to show what kind of person he is, when he was done with her class, he asked her to take him to the class for special ed and slow learners. And he sat on the floor and talked to each of them about his experience and gave them encouragement. He was like the Pied Piper. Walking down the hall to the cafeteria, kids were grabbing him and climbing on his back and swinging from him -- and he loved every minute. He's got a couple of kids and I would not be surprised if they went to ODU, even though I think he and his wife live in Belgium. That's how deep his love is for ODU.

Odell would most certainly be on Boo Williams team now though. Ollie just didnt stick around long enough to get more great locals.

Here is something that speaks to what Jumpshooter posted.

Boy Odell sure could play.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - DaBigBlue - 12-09-2014 09:40 PM

Bruins sophomore Cam Bacote has scored 50 points in his first two games going into tonight. I went to watch Cam Bacote play tonight as Bethel took down Warwick. He ended with 19pts. Made all his FTS but one, only hit one 3. John Richardson was in attendance.
