Someone brought up a good question on the radio.
Why wasn't the foundation set up years ago for infrastructure improvements such as locker rooms, practice fields, IPF?
I seem to recall that the athletic department really discouraged any fundraising outside of them, fearing that it would decrease donations for operating expenses.
Was the foundation more a response to this recent threat or was it in the works anyway.
Obviously the BOT would be against any outside funding due to removing their power over the purse strings.

I do not think the Football Foundation should be disbanded as a result of this. Rather, it should work to enact legislation to reinstate the program.
Finally, the Foundation needs to commission its own study (making it intentionally thorough as to discredit the Carr study) to show the truth.

Alright, I have been pissing all over you since you came, but I have to admit this is a really good idea. I have no idea how this works, but is this something somebody can set up easily? He is right, now is the time to do this. Get it out to all the people who have been backing us and get them to spread the word. We can't find the money locally to completely find the program, but maybe on te national level we could.

It seems that the Foundation was created directly in response to the refusal of UAB to accept donations earmarked for specific football projects.

I just got on their website and here are their rules based on what can or can't be used for a campaign
We welcome and support projects in the diverse categories of Art, Comics, Crafts, Dance, Design, Fashion, Film & Video, Food, Games, Journalism, Music, Photography, Publishing, Technology, and Theater. There are three rules every Kickstarter project must follow.
Projects must create something to share with others.
Kickstarter can be used to create all sorts of things: art and gadgets, events and spaces, ideas and experiences. But every project needs a plan for creating something and sharing it with the world. At some point, the creator should be able to say: “It’s finished. Here’s what we created. Enjoy!”
Projects must be honest and clearly presented.
Our community is built on trust and communication. Projects can’t mislead people or misrepresent facts, and creators should be candid about what they plan to accomplish. When a project involves manufacturing and distributing something complex, like a gadget, we require projects to show a prototype of what they’re making, and we prohibit photorealistic renderings.
Projects can’t fundraise for charity, offer financial incentives, or involve prohibited items.
We’re all in favor of charity and investment, but they’re not permitted on Kickstarter. Projects can’t promise to donate funds raised to a charity or cause, and they can’t offer financial incentives like equity or repayment. We also can’t allow any of these prohibited things.
These rules don’t cover every possible use of Kickstarter, but they explain our purpose and perspective.
I'm not 100% sure how you'd start it, or who should be the one to do it, but I've seen people raise huge sums on money for basically garbage on that site. Attach a link to every #FreeUAB post and I bet 10's of thousands could be raised in extremely short order. Get it to become a national news story about the campaign and it could raise even more.

I disagree. That's the new medium to raise money. You need to figure out the best way to describe how you plan on using the money and who actually needs to be in charge of it, but if you guys strike while the iron is hot I bet you would be surprised how much money could be raised.
