Joe SchadVerified account ‏@schadjoe 8m8 minutes ago
“Unless something changes before the weekend ends,” Clark said. “I think it’s over. I think the odds are very high it ends this week.”

“To shut the doors? That’s sad,” Clark said. “I feel for these players. They committed to this school.”

Well who is going to be the new number 14 then? This conference can't let a team stay with a handful of sports and no football team....

wow...just terrible...no words

6-6, bringing over 20k to their games, UAB doesn't deserve this.

If true, this is truly a sad statement of the support given UAB by the Board of Trustees and their own President. They should be ashamed of themselves in a State like Alabama.

No way in hell we should let them be kicked out of the conference if this happens. Play football with 13, or add someone for football only, or add another school for all-sports, and have 15 in basketball, etc.

Do not add to the indignities being shoved down UAB's throat. Do the right thing, C-USA.

This is an absolutely incredible that the trustees could consider such an atrocity to crush UAB Athletics. It saddens me to think that this is possible and so unfortunate because it effects so many. It will be a very sad day if this happens.

Wolken has the story. Its over. Wow. Just wow.....

With UAB's football future hanging in the balance, a person close to the decision-making process told USA TODAY Sports that athletics director Brian Mackin has given indications the program will shut down this week and that Mackin is working on a separation agreement from the university.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the conversations were supposed to be private.

I agree.

UAB is a charter member of CUSA so they should be given the right to remain without a football program. They might not want to stay in CUSA without a football program and opt for the Ohio Valley Conference but I doubt it.

What CUSA could do is go to 16 in basketball with Wichita State and Missouri State. There is a lot of uncertainty out there as to the direction of the Missouri Valley and the changes around the full cost of attendance. You know that CUSA will pay full costs so securing a programs athletic future is a must.

Turrible. I wonder if this is the end of the Birmingham Bowl too. That stadium is going to be worse with only 1 event each year.

wow!!!

RE: UAB Coach says UAB Football shutting down - stever20 - 11-30-2014 03:23 PM

from the story:
Another person with direct knowledge of Conference USA matters told USA TODAY Sports that the league's commissioner, Britton Banowsky, did not have enough support among school presidents to keep UAB in the league without football.

RE: UAB Coach says UAB Football shutting down - Wooglin157 - 11-30-2014 03:23 PM

Disgusting. Feel sorry for UAB. That USA Today story also indicates CUSA will kick UAB out. Not enough support to keep UAB in apparantely. What other Olympic sport conference options are there for UAB?

Can't believe CUSA teams are seemingly turning their backs on UAB.

Why not just add UMass football and keep UAB other sports.
