Houston vs Southern Methodist discussion - Scarlet Cougar - 11-25-2014 12:49 AM

I like playing the ponies and I have a feeling that they won't be able to stop Ward.

Might see O'Piland for mop up duty.

You can play your 5th stringers and beat us by 35

Houston is a team on the decline. Nothing will surprise me on Friday.

We were tied for first (with half the conference) but just went 1-1 against 2-win teams Tulsa and Tulane...and it took us until 3 minutes left in the game to beat Tulsa.

We were carried by our defense for a large part of this season, but they lost their mojo when Derrick Matthews went down a few games back.

we are the worst D1 team I have seen in the last 5 years...maybe longer. I think you will be fine Coogs -

Stranger things have happened, especially under Levine.

RE: Houston vs Southern Methodist discussion - uhmump95 - 11-25-2014 10:19 AM

We have had 2 near locks this season and lost both of them, UTSA and Tulane.

The fact that this game will not be a highly attended home game gives me hope that Levine won't screw this one up.

Yeah, you guys might be on par with Larry Porter's Memphis teams.

SMU is a basketball school now.

RE: Houston vs Southern Methodist discussion - panicstricken - 11-25-2014 03:54 PM

Coog High's defense is too good for Pony for to keep up.

Another mediocre dream season for Levine.

A good coach would win 11 games with Ward.

I like that a school that started 2-2 out of the gate and hasnt been to the NCAA since 1993 is now the next UCONN.

SMU kindof sucks at everything these days.

RE: Houston vs Southern Methodist discussion - BigHouston - 11-25-2014 04:10 PM

The way Levine and his brilliant OC has Houston rolling now a days, wouldn't surprise me this to be a very close game.

Heck, I bet we lose by a last minute field goal.

RE: Houston vs Southern Methodist discussion - billetingman1 - 11-25-2014 04:16 PM

With Numb nuts as head coach, and boy genius as OC, nothing would surprise me at this point, win or lose, one thing though that's a given we can't blow anybody out....

I dont get UH.

Ive watched most of your games this year. It was 14 - 0 ten minutes into the Tulsa game and basically tied to start the 3rd.

You should've put 50+ on us.

Dude... They lost on the road to Gonzaga and Indiana. Those road losses will probably serve them better long term than if they would have played setup games.

2-2 is still 2-2

Not trolling. I have a SMU degree and go to games but 2-2 isnt "basketball school" worthy.

No, we could-of score 100+ on you all 05-stirthepot 04-cheers... Our head coach and his brilliant sidekick OC is the problem, IMO.

RE: Houston vs Southern Methodist discussion - ncbeta - 11-25-2014 05:53 PM

How come Houston/SMU isn't a bigger rivalry? What was it like in the SWC days? Can't SMU alumni see the Houston campus from their high-rise offices?

how come you don't pull for the ponies?

RE: Houston vs Southern Methodist discussion - UConn-SMU - 11-25-2014 08:04 PM

I only witnessed the last 6 or 8 years of the SWC. It seemed like every game was a rivalry game to some degree. That was the beauty of it.

SMU-Houston was no different than Texas Tech-TCU, or Baylor-Texas. We recruited the same areas; it was cutthroat. But there was nothing extra special about SMU-Houston.

I joked on Coogfans that a 9-4 record will have never looked less impressive and less appreciated. The second worst UH coach in history, Kim Helton, went 7-4 in his final season with wins at LSU and at North Carolina and still got fired. Considering the losses to Tulane and especially UTSA to drive away fans at the opening of the stadium, it is debatable whether or not a 9-4 finish should save Levine, even with a win over a P5 foe in the Fort Worth Bowl.
