WTF ESPN? - georgia_tech_swagger - 11-09-2014 01:03 AM

Clemson vs Georgia Tech.

The ACC's best rivalry. Usually a nail biter that makes for good TV. Always a sell out no matter where it is played. Huge implications for the Coastal Division champ. Both teams ranked. Both teams coming in with long winning streaks. Important game for both teams in terms of bowl selection.

Noon kick.

I assume you're talking about the noon slot on ESPN. Why is that a problem? Where else would you put it?

WTF ESPN? - Ragu - 11-09-2014 11:14 AM

Florida state vs Miami is the best rivalry for football by far

RE: WTF ESPN? - Hokie Mark - 11-09-2014 01:37 PM

IMO the big problem is ACC scheduling. Why put FSU/Miami on the same weekend as GT/Clemson. For that matter, wasn't Clemson/FSU on the same week as GT/VT? Stupid (IMO).

Actually that's not as big a deal. One game gets an afternoon slot and the other can be at night. With all of the nuances the ACC has to deal with, there are going to be some quirks here and there.

RE: WTF ESPN? - firmbizzle - 11-09-2014 11:50 PM

Big SEC games are on.

RE: WTF ESPN? - ecuacc4ever - 11-10-2014 09:36 AM

Wait - I thought the ACC's best FB rivalry was FSU/Clemson.

Or, whichever ACC school is playing Notre Dame.

That's a good deal for the ACC. The only decent game competing for eyeballs in the noon time slot is the Ohio State-Minnesota game.

At 3:30 you would be competing with Alabama-Mississippi State and Wisconsin-Nebraska.

In the evening, you have Georgia-Auburn and FSU-Miami.

Exactly. It would be different if Miss St sucked like they normally do.

GT Clemson as the best rivalry? Um, LOL.

FSU-Miami. Duh. That's why we're at 8pm on ABC 03-wink

You expect any different from the ACC?

Since the first meeting in ACC play 19 of 32 meetings between the two have been decided by 10 points or less, and the teams have actually met in the ACCCG unlike FSU/Miami. The record as an ACC contest is Clemson 16 Georgia Tech 16.

The FSU/Miami game is at 8PM on ABC primarily because FSU is #2 in the country.

Which is an excellent reason for featuring that game.

Agree. That and there will actually be fans in Sun Life for a Miami game. If they use the method of counting attendance that they typically use for Miami home games there will be close to 200k in attendance.

Nobody is saying that Clemson/GT should be the primetime national broadcast game. But a nooner is a slap in the face for a top 25 rivalry match-up.

RE: WTF ESPN? - georgia_tech_swagger - 11-10-2014 07:27 PM

I was thinking 3:30 ABC/ESPN2 split national broadcast myself.

Maybe ESPN didn't want the GT/CLEM to go up against MSST/Bama at the same time on CBS.

RE: WTF ESPN? - YNot - 11-11-2014 12:55 PM

The ACC's biggest scheduling mistake is to put the Florida St.-Clemson game in September. Why would you GUARANTEE that one of your best football teams has a loss by Week 4?

Just imagine if #12 Clemson (8-1, and 7-0 in conference) was travelling to Tallahassee this weekend to play #1 Florida St. (9-0, 7-0 in conference)! The stakes would be much higher - winner takes the Atlantic Division, playoff bid - and the ratings and excitement for ACC football would also be much higher.

Instead, #21 Clemson at #24 Georgia Tech matchup gets the noon kickoff on ESPN and the Big Ten gets TWO games on ABC.
