Temple Had to Tie the Tigers, Not the Other Way Around - OldManTiger - 11-07-2014 11:27 PM

Yes, it was an emotional game but the Tigers held the upper hand from the 2:50 mark in the first quarter. After the 75 yard run, the Tigers actually had a better offensive and defensive game than did Temple. I agree, though, it did not seem so while we were watching. Check the stats from the time that Temple made it 10-0. The Tigers outscored them 16-3 but did allow Temple to stay in it because we were not as efficient offensively as we have been. Credit goes to Temple for a great defense. We had more offensive yards (312 to 298) but had the ball by 2 minutes less. The stats actually do say we played pretty well. The penalties are our biggest mistake and they have to be corrected for us to go 1-0 next week.

That is what I saw. Not much 'busted' coverage.

I've sat through so many statistical and moral victories that I really don't care how the Tigers got it done. Scoreboard! : )

The Alabama's of the world win ugly. Right now we just take wins. We hope to get to where we win ugly.

Alabama a couple of weeks ago won 14-13 against Arkansas.

Any way you can get it. Temple helped a lot. Two turnovers to one...and a couple of bad dropped passes. We were due though. Have lost too many games when we seems to play better overall than the opponent that there are zero complaints when the other team helps you out.

They also played good defense although we helped them out a bit with what Is thought was an oddly over conservative style...a few too many three yard throws on third and much longer and a few too many runs facing eight in the box.

All meaningless...since nothing matters more than 16-13.

RE: Temple Had to Tie the Tigers, Not the Other Way Around - Atlanta - 11-08-2014 12:02 AM

Was at the game. Thought we played very conservative apparently not going to give the game away with TOs while attempting to open up. It worked. Got to give it to JF, he played it right. Opened it up just enough to make the winning drive. Temple looked pretty strong on D. They seemed to move to the ball better than anyone we've played, always had several guys on the ball to make tackles. All of that said, might have been different if Temple receivers could catch the ball. Several big drops, especially #15, he was consistently awful, and other Temple receivers didn't seem to be able to get open. Liked our D too. Great win against a tough D on the road in the cold. Go Tigers!

My favorite thing Lou Holtz ever said......

You don't have to be the best team in the country.
You just have to be the best team in the stadium.

I watched that game and couldn't figure out if it was good Defense or absent offense<---on both teams......almost like each side was a bit over-conservative. That last Tigers drive for the winning FG was the best "O" I saw in the whole game.

Lynch was 21-28 for 230 yards and a TD. When we passed and it wasn't a screen we actually moved the ball pretty easy. We played really conservative. Coach Fuente knew what Temple was gonna do.

Temple played the Houston Defense. Do everything humanly possible to stop the run and make Paxton win the game. Against Houston Paxton turned the ball over 4 times. Fuente basically took that away from Temple and opened up only when we needed too.

I'm happy to get out of there with the win.

Had we not played conservative the whole game we might have scored a lot more, but we also could have turned the ball over a few times. Fuente called it very conservative and the team got the job done.

New buzz phrase:

"What Tiger Owls?"

RE: Temple Had to Tie the Tigers, Not the Other Way Around - Crazier - 11-08-2014 06:47 AM

Our offense looks different without Doroland Dorceus and Sam Craft. Both players were explosive and we had plays specifically designed for Sam Craft. That may be a reason why we look conservative in the play calling. Marquis Warford would of been huge for us this year if he could have kept his head straight.

Other than my getting cold at the game, that's exactly how I saw it. This win is a great win regardless, with kudos to the team & coach to get bowl eligible & be contending for the conference title.....great accomplishments on a cold night in Philly.

Temple beat themselves not memphis. We are a product of playing weaker teams.

You may have a point to argue there, but it's also true we won the game. For a long time we had lost those games; on the road, conference game, important....
