KSU-Toledo - thanksjim - 11-05-2014 01:52 AM

I'll make this a short thread. Kent State loses.......next!

RE: KSU-Toledo - danh63 - 11-05-2014 07:08 AM

Second half was very exciting! Take out a few bad moves and we had a chance!! Hopefully they will do the right thing and give Strock the start.

RE: KSU-Toledo - Pulltown Falcon - 11-05-2014 10:07 AM

Liked the Strock kid when he got in. Hoping he does not play at BG next week.

Would definitely have the bonehead jabroni that cost the team 15 yards because he had to do his stupid throat slash and gave TU a first down after a nice loss in the backfield out there this morning, tomorrow morning, and many more mornings running the steps.

On a side note, I didn't know he was related to the Dolphin great! I have always been a Dolphin fan

I agree it was nice to see us atleast compete. Strock looked real good showed his speed and decision making. Yes he made a couple mistakes but this is what he needs to beable to work on and playing time is the only way. Team really picked up when he went in. I too think he should get the start. I was disappointed to see Reardon off by himself not cheering his team on that to me is poor leadership

RE: KSU-Toledo - shakermaker05 - 11-05-2014 12:26 PM

I watched up until halftime (TV) and couldn't bare anymore as I had a rough day at work yesterday and the play was just adding to my discontent. I was suprised when I seen the score this morning. Strock put up nice numbers for one half- if I were Haynes he'd be my QB1 next week. Reardon is looking more and more like a bust in my eyes.

RE: KSU-Toledo - axeme - 11-05-2014 01:12 PM

Don Strock a Dolphin great? Well, he was Griese's and Marino's backup, played well at times and had a classic playoff game. But he was a career backup.

You are correct!! Some fan I am :) For some stupid reason who I had in my mind was Earl Morrall. Thought the age difference was bigger than it should be.
I think I need a vacation! Damn audits are getting to me.
Thanks for keeping me from making a bigger dope of myself

This is a college football board. Think of Don Strock as a Virginia Tech great, 7th in Heisman voting in 1972

I know the story the coach and the department is trying to sell is they are sooo young, which is true if you look at the 2 deep.

However, i'm not buying it as I don't see young explosive athletes. Are speed is lacking. Our best playmakers are seniors. And our lines are not good. And I love the holly's heart but the RB is a 3rd down back not an every down back. he be better served teaming up with his brother and dominate the defensive backfield

I'm not saying you pull the plug after 2 years but i'm not sure Haynes will get this thing turned around!

I have to agree with you and I do not feel that Haynes is the right coach Once again just my thought but recruitting is not where we should be and I feel some players should be possibley moved to other positions just a thought

RE: KSU-Toledo - axeme - 11-06-2014 12:33 PM

I disagree. I think Haynes will be fine. But time will tell: next year, they need to show marked improvement and be .500 or so, give or take a game, and the year after that--year 4 for Haynes--they need to be a top team in the East. If we are still floundering then, well...

I am not as pessimistic on the recruiting. I think our young guys will work out fine.

I agree with axeme. Haynes is going to recruit his type of players. It's not going to be based on the number of three or four star recruits he brings in. It's going to be based on some of the intangibles. So far I have noticed he likes players that are captains of their HS teams, never quit attitude, and Christians.

So if I'm Jewish I can't play for PH? 05-stirthepot

Well played Danny! Maybe the ACLU is going to sue PH for only targeting Christians!

In all seriousness, I have recognized that Coach doesn't hide his faith in his press conferences. And when I look up the commits from last year and this year on Twitter, I noticed a lot of the Twitter handles say something like "Christian. Football. Everything else." Just a personal observation and I'm glad he targets these players.

I know Jason Bitsko was a Hazell recruit, but he is exactly what a Paul Haynes type of recruit looks like.

Very dangerous talk no way should this be a issue

RE: KSU-Toledo - thanksjim - 11-06-2014 03:41 PM

Relax Mr. Strock. Nathan falls right into the category of the type that Paul Haynes will recruit.

RE: KSU-Toledo - GFlash68 - 11-06-2014 03:46 PM

Count me in the support Haynes camp for now. Since I go back before the James Gang era, there have been times that I have been accused of calling for coaching changes long before my colleagues came to the same conclusion. It is not pleasant to call for purging a staff, especially when a coach is only in his second or third year. I have done this in the past because generally I do not buy "it takes 4-5 years" to turn a program around approach as preached by usually unsuccessful coaches. Most of these loser coaches, like we have had in numbers in the past, have shown their incompetency early on in their tenure. Trademarks of these coaches are:
- Immediate recruitment of transfers, prep school, and junior college players looking for a quick fix.
- Espousing how it takes time
- Individual players not playing their position to their ability at the time
- Players quitting on the coach as the season wears on

I support Haynes for the following reasons:
- He appears honest and gives us an honest appraisal of the situation
- He was left with a team that graduated a near championship team with NFL talent, the cupboard was near bare.
- You can not count his first year recruiting because he was late getting the job
- Second year recruiting seems to be OK but lacking in play makers. Play makers are not very good with poor and young lines. Time will tell.
- In spite of getting beaten, the young players appear to be well coached by being in the correct position most of the time
- Players are getting beaten on strength and youth which should improve.
- The team has not quit on this coach. They play hard, do not give up.
- Axeme supports Haynes

I would not mind seeing us bring in a stud JC player or two for next year. We could use help at running back for sure. This is the critical year for Haynes in recruiting. I, like others have said, am not sure that he can recruit at a level that will get us over the top. IMO, it is premature to be too judgmental unless you are seeing details in total conflict with what I have stated above.

RE: KSU-Toledo - anti-zip - 11-06-2014 07:29 PM

It's tough to pass any kind of judgement on Haynes yet. The offensive line is probably the most important part of the offense and ours was put in a tough spot when they lost their best player. If you wonder how much of an impact a good center can have on the team look at how different the Browns offense has looked after Alex Mack went down. It's no coincidence that the best team Kent's had also featured what was likely the best O-line in school history. Overall, our defense has been an average MAC defense but our offense is one of the worst in the MAC. Just my opinion, but with a solid O-line I think we're right around .500 right now.

RE: KSU-Toledo - dannyb73 - 11-06-2014 08:32 PM

I don't follow football recruiting and I don't have a clue about the 2 deep. What I know is PH took over a program that was at an all-time high and 2 years later we are lucky to have a single win. I know there are factors that were out of his control, but I really have a hard time buying into the fact that we had no talent left when PH came in. Because supposedly, from what most of you are saying, we had NONE. And now, what we have, Haynes brought in and they are young. I just struggle with excuses. Bitkso's death is an exception. I can live with that as an excuse because he was our best OL and it did rock the program. But to say we had no talent left when DH left assumes that had he stayed we would still be in this black hole, and I have a very difficult time believing that. I just can't get down with that opinion. That is my opinion, and I am entitled to mine as you are yours. The one thing we will all agree on is that it needs to get turned around.

RE: KSU-Toledo - AlphaFlash - 11-06-2014 09:23 PM

I'm pulling for Haynes because I'm hoping he is our Ruffin McNeill.
