More to come. Quinn and Durbin wanted the announcement prior to the election so dumb asses would vote for them. Then after the election, we will find out how much tax incentives Illinois gave to Amazon. In the end, Taxpayers of the state of Illinois lose.

Are you agreeing with Fox News?

Anyone now disagree that Big Government and Big Business ars on the same side. Anyone? The power of the state has to be limited. They line the pockets of these guys continually. Big gov and Big Biz are NOT opposed to anything that lines their pockets. Its not just the State of IL its 45 out of 50 states and the Feds. It does not end. BTW it could be worse like subsiding a football stadium for multi millionaires.

I want to hear the Big Government boosters defend these actions.

In this thread:

Anti-tax Republicans are FURIOUS that businesses bringing jobs to Illinois are getting tax breaks!

RE: Amazon to build a facility and hire 1000 employees in illinois - NIU05 - 10-30-2014 05:09 PM

In this thread the ones who decry corporate welfare are thrilled tax dollars are going to billionaires. Hypocrisy is flying high.

To DeKalb? Okay, THAT explains the $138 million athletic re-construction at NIU! :)

In Michigan, they'd give tax breaks to film companies shooting movies out here. Ben Affleck spoke to the MSU Spartan football team on their practice field while they were shooting Batman vs Superman a bit outside Lansing. Funny how college football's the actual super heroes. :)

Anyway, I think it's a good idea to in other ways, pump more Circulation into an economy. But at the same time, yeah, you don't want to Ride off that. It's good for a boost, or to save an economy/environment (see DETROIT). Here in Grand Rapids, how did our downtown go from dirty & not good in the mid-90s to VERY GOOD now? Tax breaks to open up shop down here. Cleaned it right up in 10 years. It's awesome now. It was Temporary.

But you don't want that to be your Staple. You only want that as a testosterone injection, IMO.

Pretty sure that happens in every state. The previous company I worked for got tax breaks to keep their offices in Cincinnati. Not that I like it.

I'd be all for lowering the taxes on everyone if we didn't need the revenue. Unfortunately we need the revenue. Bruce Rauner's plan is to lower the income tax and replace it with a sales tax which 1. Shifts the tax burden from the rich to the poor and working class because people living paycheck to paycheck would get taxed on most of their income while billionaires like Rauner who ship their $$$ to the Caymans would get taxed on a very small amount of their income, and 2. Will still bring in far less revenue.

So, given that we need the revenue, it's better to cut taxes of companies willing to bring jobs to Illinois instead of lowering them for everyone, or allowing that company to go to Ohio instead because they're offering a better deal. We'll be collecting tax dollars from the employees of that company and from the company itself once its tax breaks run out anyway.

It hasn't been said, but that's probably the reason Walgreens kept their HQ in Deerfield. There was no other reason for them not to move it to Europe. Caterpillar's CEO has repeatedly said that the business environment in Illinois is one of the worst in the country and people have been begging him to move for a while now.

The CAT CEO says that to get more anti workers laws passed so we look like Mississippi. They successfully cut workers comp rights in 2011 and they want to keep cutting. But they aren't going anywhere. Probably billions have been invested into Peoria.

Lose your arm in a machine? Sorry, here's an aspirin, but CAT's got a bottom line to protect!

The OSHA is not doing their job.

Do you have proof of that? CAT is probably union shop and the union stewards are pretty active in union shops. The would file a grievance pretty fast.

I was responding to Max Powers comment. He feels that CAT is cutting corners on safety. CAT is following the law unless you know otherwise?
