ACC Bowl prospects - ken d - 10-26-2014 12:39 PM

After nine weeks, the ACC has 5 teams eligible for a bowl: FSU, Clemson, Louisville, Duke and Georgia Tech. Two others, BC and Miami, are just one win away.

There are five teams that still need two more wins to qualify. Those five, along with their remaining opponents, are:

NC State....'Cuse, GT, WFU and UNC
Pitt............Duke, UNC, 'Cuse and Miami
UVa...........GT, FSU, Miami and VaTech
UNC..........Miami, Pitt, Duke and NC State
VaTech......BC, Duke, WFU and UVa

BC has VaTech, Louisville, FSU and Cuse left to play, while Miami still has to face UNC, FSU, UVa and Pitt.

Which schools do you think are the most likely to attain eligibility and which are the least likely?

Six of these schools end their season with one of the others: UNC vs State, Miami vs Pitt and UVa vs VaTech. Only BC faces a season ending opponent not on this list (Syracuse) but they have three tough opponents before that game, so 'Cuse could be a spoiler for the Eagles. Will any of these be elimination games for somebody?

cuse still has a decent to good shot at a bowl game with easier games left to play but this week is a must win at home vs nc state. (nc State and Duke at home then bye week then @ pitt and bc)

Pitt, NC State and Va Tech to go along with the seven already with 6 wins.

RE: ACC Bowl prospects - wildthing202 - 11-01-2014 04:43 PM

Put BC on the board.

RE: ACC Bowl prospects - lumberpack4 - 11-01-2014 07:03 PM

My projection:

FSU 13 - 0, Playoff against a non-SEC team
Clemson 10 -2, Orange Bowl against ND
Duke 10 - 3, Russell against West Virginia
Miami 8-4, Sun against Washington
GT 8-4, Belk against Kentucky
Louisville 7-5, Music City against South Carolina
BC 7-5, Pinstripe against Maryland
NC State 6-6, Detroit against Rutgers (need to beat one of GT, WF, or UNC) - Prediction GT runs over State, State beats Wake, UNC wins controversial game in Chapel Hill
VT 6-6, Military against an AAC team (need to beat two of UVa, Wake, Duke) - Prediction VT beats UVa and Wake, loses to Duke
UNC 6-6, Independence against an SEC fill-in team (need to beat two of NC State, Duke, Pitt) Prediction UNC beats State in Controversial game in Chapel Hill and splits Duke and Pitt, I think they beat Duke and lose to Pitt - just a hunch
Pitt 6-6, Bitcoin against an AAC team (need to beat two of Syracuse, UNC, Miami) Predication, Miami kills Pitt, Pitt beats UNC and Syracuse

cuse's bowl chances took a big hit by losing must win game vs nc state. We have to try to outscore duke then use the bye to get some guys back healthy, I'm pessimistic :(

Bad strategy.

Better strategy: lose out and hire a better coach.

we aren't changing head coach regardless of winning or losing any remaining games. He is ok as head coach but we just need to continue to bring in more talent and hope acc doesn't shaft us with conference schedule schedule like they did this year

UVA is done. No way they pick up 2 of the last 3.

False. GT is not Clemson, and isn't from the state of North Carolina. Belk HATES anybody from the ACC outside that short list.

RE: ACC Bowl prospects - rednblackattack - 11-01-2014 10:33 PM

I expect UofL to land in the Music City Bowl. A lot of Cards fans will make that trip to Nashville.

RE: ACC Bowl prospects - Ole Blue - 11-01-2014 11:34 PM

Miami --> Pinstripe Bowl NYC

Swag - I think things have changed for the Belk since the other pick is an SEC team instead of an Big East team. I don't see the Belk Bowl taking a 6-6 State or 6-6 UNC team this year. Kentucky hasn't been to a bowl in a long time - they would bring a lot of folks, South Carolina would also be an easy choice for Belk.

Past Belk Bowls

December 28, 2002 Virginia 48 West Virginia 22 notes
December 27, 2003 Virginia 23 Pittsburgh 16 notes
December 30, 2004 Boston College 37 North Carolina 24 notes
December 31, 2005 North Carolina State 14 South Florida 0 notes
December 30, 2006 Boston College 25 Navy 24 notes

December 27, 2012 Cincinnati 48 Duke 34 Notes
December 28, 2013 North Carolina 39 Cincinnati 17 Notes

The ability to match a 8-4 GT against Tennessee, Kentucky, or South Carolina would be popular and GT would not be competing against their own basketball ticket sales.

2002: NC State and Wake both already taken. Passed over GT to select UVA.
2003: NC State only NC eligible, already taken. Clemson already taken. Passed over GT to select UVA.
2004: UNC only NC eligible. Passed over UVA and GT to select UNC.
2005: NC State only NC eligible. Passed over GT, BC to select NCST. This is the year BC fell all the way from ACC-CG to Boise, thus causing the 1-win rule to be created.
2006: Wake only NC eligible, auto-bid to Orange. Belk is REQUIRED to take BC due to record.
2007: Wake only NC eligible. Belk also REQUIRED to take Wake due to record, but they wanted Wake anyway.
2008: UNC and Wake and NCST eligible. Belk passes over BC, UMD, Wake and selects UNC.
2009: I got bored at this point... it's all NC and Clemson from here on out.

I hope I have demonstrated the Belk's eagerness to pass over teams whenever they can to pick up preferably a NC team, and barring that Clemson. And barring that UVA. They've gone out of their way to pass over GT and others, but in particular GT.

The ACC renewed it's affiliation with Shreveport, St. Petersburg* and Birmingham just so Ga Tech, Syracuse and Pittsburgh would have somewhere to go bowling... 05-stirthepot

* assuming the Pinstripe is not available to them

So GTech gets Shreveport...settled. That was easy.
