Men's Hoops Offer - Sleepy - 10-26-2014 12:12 PM

Rockets offer 6'6" wing Jaycee Hillsman.

Toledo has stepped in with a scholarship offer for Jaycee Hillsman of Don Bosco Prep (IN). Hillsman, a strong-framed 6'6 wing, is doing a postgraduate year at Don Bosco after playing his high school basketball at Chicago Simeon (IL). Hillsman is coming off of a strong run this past spring and summer on the travel team circuit with the Illinois Dawgs.

Simeon's a great basketball school. He would definitely fill a need on the team and hopefully he's an under the radar/late bloomer type of player.

It seems like that would be an offer for next season/2015. At this point we don't have an open scholarship.

BTW, there was a kid with coach K at the UMass game. Don't know who he was (6-7,skinny,white).

Great another 6'6" kid who will show up and lose 2 inches.

I'll take a recruit from Simeon any day of the year.

with a 6'9" junior, 6'9" sophmore and 2 recruits 6'9", I'll take some 6'4" to 6'6" swing players that can score and defend. Oh, and a 5'9" to 6'0" pointguard like we have NOW!!! Please don't get caught up on height, a 7'0" 190lbs recruit would be several years from helping as much as a 6'8" 230lbs recruit with the same abilities athletically. Coach K is doing a better job filling our roster than anyone prior to Bob Nichols. Sure Bob would like the defense to play better, but what could he have done with teaching defense to these athletes.

I agree with everything said. Never heard of Simeon's. Unless it's local to Toledo, I don't follow HS basketball. I just think it's funny that anytime we get a kid listed at a certain height, he suddenly loses an inch or two when he gets to campus. People were questioning the Hall kid this year and I think people questioned if Applewhite is really 6'5"? Pierson was supposed to be 6'4". I could look Tino Valencia in the eye and I'm 6'2". I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.

If we have bigs in the pipeline, I'll take an athletic 6'6" swingman any day. Jordan was 6'6", right?

Jordan was 6'6" (wink)

Jordan was measured at 6-4 by NBA scouts.

hence the wink

Simeon is one of the best High school programs in the country. The kid is most likely very talented.

That's where Derrick Rose and Jabari Parker played in high school. Just got done winning something like four or five Illinois state championships in a row.

Back in the day there was only one way to measure our players...stocken feet, heels against the wall and steel right angle on the skull. That is why when you were listed as 6'6" you were 6'6". A lot of the team were disappointed but that is why when Harvey faced most 6'8" guys he was often time taller.
