Game Week: NIU - emu steve - 10-19-2014 05:55 PM

Not much love in Vegas. We are a 3 TD underdog.

RE: Game Week: NIU - emsg06 - 10-19-2014 10:21 PM

Whats the point anymore?

We might surprise a team who isn't looking, maybe BSU, but I agree that three wins is about it.

I don't see a team like NIU, CMU, WMU, Toledo (all of whom could/should be bowl bound and one MACC bound) sleep walking for three hours vs us.

RE: Game Week: NIU - Ken Barna - 10-20-2014 07:01 AM

Dear Steve,
In order for Eastern to win, why does the other team have to sleepwalk while playing us?
Eastern 21-10 over Northern Illinois. Northern is not the team of past years. They have been juggling quarterbacks and have a few other problems as well.

RE: Game Week: NIU - emu79 - 10-20-2014 07:52 AM

Looking forward to see the game "live".

Good stuff.

I can't lie to myself to the extent that I have any belief in our ability to beat NIU. Wish I could but I've now been following EMU through 3 coaches and nothing seems to improve.

RE: Game Week: NIU - FrankAnderson - 10-20-2014 06:20 PM

Miami put up 41 on NIU in Dekalb. They'll score on us, but if we can mitigate their chances in the red zone we'll be in better shape. That said, it won't be easy at all. We'll need to replicate the offensive performance against Buffalo. I'm not expecting a win. Won't rule it out, but not expecting it.

Any updates on the injuries to Hurcombe, Spearman and Roback?

Game Week: NIU - EAGLE KING - 10-21-2014 08:22 AM

In the presser, CC said Spearman is jogging but not practicing yet, looks like he is a few weeks away at least. He said that Roback is taking part in some parts of practice but not all and that he meets with the doctors again this week for an update. No news on Hurcombe but said that Cole Gardiner was hurt last week but doing better now than last week.

Thanks, probably makes sense to let Spearman sit out the rest of the season and apply for a medical redshirt?

Dear Eagle King,
Shouldn't the same be said of Roback? I think he only played in parts of the first two or three games this year. Seems he would be a perfect fit for medical redshirt.

RE: Game Week: NIU - emu79 - 10-21-2014 10:29 AM

Ken I make the comment about Spearman in response to Eagle King, if Roback keeps sitting out yes I think it would make sense to apply for a medical redshirt. However I don't know the rules regarding medical redshirts and how many games you can play in a season and apply for one.

RE: Game Week: NIU - Ken Barna - 10-21-2014 10:44 AM

Dear emu79,
Sorry about not giving you the credit about Spearman. With that being said, like you I'm not sure of the rules regarding medical redshirts. I'm also wondering does the severity of the injury have anything to do with making the call on the medical redshirt? Orbital bone fractures are quite severe, from what I understand, and take some time to heal. If I attend the coaches luncheon this week, I should ask Coach Creighton about these players.

Medical redshirts are usually approved at the conference level based on input and recommendation from the institution.

I believe the general rules are essentially two fold: 1). Can't play more than 25% of the games, 2). The injury is serious enough to prevent the player from returning to action that same season.

#2 can be dicey if a player could or could not return for the last few games.

MY gut is that both Roback and EMU would probably favor a medical redshirt.

Do remember, however, a kid can have a medical redshirt and a regular redshirt or a transfer year sitout BUT loses a year of playing eligibility (because those are two of his five calendar years that he has to complete his eligibility). The only exception to the 5-year rule is TWO medical redshirts ala Samuels.

No problem Ken and thanks to Steve ie the rules. But ask about Spearman et al at the luncheon and thanks for keeping us informed about those luncheons.

I would agree, however when CC was asked about players being medical redshirted he did say "there is a lot of football left to be played." So they obviously will wait and see if that's the best option or if having them play a few games at the end of the year is best.

So any guesses for the attendance?

RE: Game Week: NIU - FrankAnderson - 10-22-2014 09:41 PM

This will be the first EMU home game I've not been in attendance for since November 2010 (my freshman year). I'm broken up about it.

Coincidentally, the last game I missed was the NIU game that season. You remember, the ugly one...

RE: Game Week: NIU - FrankAnderson - 10-22-2014 09:42 PM

If we win I'm going to be royally pissed.
