I wonder if Jeff Monken is regretting leaving GS - sarkelcpa - 10-18-2014 03:23 PM

Army is not doing all that well. Maybe he enjoys a challenge or the money makes mediocrity palatable.

I'm guessing there are about 750,000 extra reasons why he doesn't.

gotta take the money when they more than double your salary. One of those rare instances where him leaving worked out well for everyone.

Going to be a long year for Monken this year. Army losing to winless Kent St. 33-17 with 5 min. left in game. I think this loss will put Army at 2-5 so far this year.

I think he is finding out Army is not Navy. Still give him a couple of years and I predict he will have them consistently around .500.

I agree and if he can get Army around .500 he will be hailed as a great coach there. They have been really bad for a long time.

I'm sure he misses some things about GS. I'm sure there are some things he is glad to be away from. Nice paycheck at army, and no threat of an angry mob running him out of town after a loss.

I don't know but he is exactly the right coach for Army. He'll get them back on track soon.

Well, two out of three anyways.

Sam Houston State probably isn't too happy.

Only Ga. State allows that play.

Monken does regret leaving in some form. His tweets about GSU seem to be an act of attrition. He's true blue.

Don't care.
Have to admit I was perplexed by his hiring, but now I'm ecstatic we have CWF.

Agree. No one would expect to see quick results this early. Army, given their recruiting opportunities, hired the perfect coach with the perfect offensive scheme. He will need some time and then watch out Navy. Go Army, Go you mighty 3rd battalion, Charley Company, 17th field Artillery, 1968-1970.

Maybe, but now glad he left and happy to have Fritz

I don't think GS would be 5-2 with Monken

Glad it happened as well, but who else would we have lost to with Monken?

Yep to what you said and I don't think Monken regrets it. Any public mention he gives of Georgia Southern speaks more of his character than anything else. The man's the right pick for Army. And howdy to a fellow former redleg: Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery (Lance); HHB, 1/32 FA (Lance); HHB, 5/8 FA (198 towed).

He is not making 750K more than Fritz but yes huge pay raise but I think it is short term gain for long term pain. I dont think it will be that long before GS realizes we are going to have to get between 750K-1M if we want to fend off the at least the average G5 teams.

I was talking about over what he was being paid (not including coaches shows) last year.

Side note: Was there a Satterfield-esque clause built into his contract for the move up? I.e. Would he have received a raise if he stayed for the jump up?
