This makes Kent State look really bad. There was no place that Army could use?

Nonsense.

Unless it's bad to practice on Akron's field.

Homecoming tomorrow so the field is being used today to prep. There are lots of spaces/fields they could have used, but why not practice on a regular field if one is available?

Practicing in Akron is probably preferable to some local field. A short drive. I see no problem.

I'm as surprised as you. I do not know details. Army equipment guys tweeted about unloading at Akron yesterday, with a #waitwhat tag, and I thought it was a joke.

Spending time in Akron is hardship duty, no doubt about that.

So army cadets aren't trained to handle small changes? Whatever happened to "You adapt. You overcome. You improvise."

Sheesh. Gonna have words w/ folks when I'm there next month.

This make no sense. If Option A could not be used, was Akron the only other one? I don't buy that for a second. Another College in Portage County appears that their Football team is off this weekend

No go? Then was a high School field available? Kent Roosevelt, Field, Ravenna and Rootstown was not in use and closer.

Heck, they could have used the Ordinance Plant for practice/ training?

I am honored to have them use Akron, but there had to be better options. Just throwing some out there.

Can you blame Kent State? Last time they had the Army on campus there was that incident.

Did it not occur to you that of all those options you mentioned, Army preferred to take the one they did? It's not like it is that far away. It's almost a half hour drive to Hiram. If it were you, would you rather drive farther to practice at Hiram College's facility, or go to a closer one at Akron where you can do your stretching and no pads run-through on a field similar to Dix Stadium? It's not like this is some big hardship. You get off the bus, do your run-through, get back on the bus and drive 10 miles down the road.

This is a silly discussion.

Please note the thread title. I intended this as a thank you thread. I did post separately on the Kent State forum to ask about details, but that board is more dead than an 0-13 Army football season.

It is unusual to have a walk-through at a location other than where you're actually going to play. To my knowledge, this is the first time Army has done this for a regular season game. However, I seriously doubt that this was a last minute (or even last hour, or even last day) change, so the "aren't cadets trained to adapt" cliche isn't really necessary.

BTW, what's an Ordinance Plant? A plant that manufactures laws? :-)

RE: Thanks, Akron - Love and Honor - 10-17-2014 03:14 PM

Kent read, Kent write, Kent State.

Sorry, I had to.
