So far the Danny Manning experiment is living up to expectations on the recruiting trail.

He's gotten high school coaches, parents and recruits around the country to buy into his recruiting pitch that "he is the best big man coach in the country". You can hear them repeating that almost verbatim in their interviews. (Whether that claim is true or not only time will tell.)

Danny Manning and Randolph Childress are making a very effective team on the recruiting trail. Manning is reserved and Childress is outgoing, so their personalities really compliment each other. They've done a tremendous job getting Wake back on the top recruits radar.

The relationships that they have established (partly thanks to Childress' son Brandon) look to pay off very well in the 2016 class. There's a decent chance that class could include multiple four and five star recruits. Even if it doesn't include any five stars, Wake looks to be well on its way to becoming a regular in the Top 25 again although it may take two or three seasons to get back there.

In any case, the worst of Wake basketball is behind us for the foreseeable future.

Manning's 2015 recruiting may wrap up this Saturday as John Collins decides between Wake and Miami.

That's an odd pair to be deciding between. I would think they are polar opposite cultures.

He's from West Palm Beach. Other than that, they're both private schools in the ACC with immediate playing time to offer.

Manning picked up a commitment from John Collins this morning.

That really worked for John Thompson II (elder). There was something about a coach being able to look you in the eye that centers liked. Patrick Ewing mentioned that as why he chose Georgetown.

Manning picked up another four star commit Friday night to kick off the 2016 class.

Puts us in excellent position to add Harry Giles and Kwe Parker.

I notice on the Wake Forest scholarship chart that the three commitments for 2015 would bring the Deacs to 15 players on scholarship - two above the limit. Any idea which two players currently on scholarship are expected to leave?

Question...is he the son of Randolph Childress or a relative...

RE: Danny Manning picks up 2nd solid Commitment - WakeForestRanger - 10-25-2014 11:35 AM

Brandon is Randolph's son.

Daniel Green is graduating early to free up one scholarship. The other will come from the guard that loses out on playing time. Most likely that will be Rondale Watson (the only Bz recruit that didn't decommit when we fired his sorry ass.)

I am officially old...lol...remember watching Randolph going off in the ACC Tournament while stationed at Fort Polk in the Field at JRTC Field Rotation...20 years ago...

If I'm not mistaken, Green won't be graduating early as much as he will graduate on schedule, since he is a redshirt Junior this year. With five other Juniors on the roster, Manning will have plenty of scholarships available for the 2016 class. Sounds as if he will have the Deacs competitive again, which is great news for the ACC. With NC State finally developing some quality depth, the league can once again boast a strong middle.

RE: Danny Manning picks up 2nd solid Commitment - WakeForestRanger - 10-25-2014 02:10 PM

Yeah, I was just being lazy. Green will forego his redshirt 5th Year Senior Season at Wake.

Sounds like the Deacs will be competing for the ACC hoops title very soon. Hopefully this puts another team into the NCAA Tournament as well...

That 2016 class is setting up to be a program changer for us.
