We're getting no respect. We should be in that list. Sob, sniff.

I hate to see a grown man cry. We will do our best to help you onto the list this week. I mean -- it's the least we could do.

04-cheers

Heck, if they had played a schedule similar to many other schools they could be .500 team right now…As we sit here today based on Sagarin Ratings they have #1 rated SOS in all of football. So lets see how things shake out for them the rest of the season. They are not a good team but they are not has bad as some may think.

UNT fan here. I saw them in person at our SMU game. They are by far the worst team in FBS. I actually even felt a little bad for them towards the end of the game. For the actual players, not the fans.

I saw them in person as well and I have seen plenty of terrible football teams come in Dowdy-Ficklen over the years. They did not look the part of a terrible football team. They have good size on both lines, they have some good receivers and some good athletes on the field. They are pretty bad on the defensive side of the ball. I think the main difference for them now as opposed to the start of the season is they have finally found a QB.

Coming into the ECU game they had been running the ball about 40 times a game. They tried to run on us a little early in the game with no success…Then they spread the field and starting running this short passing game and looked like a different team. Their receivers were making good catches, the QB was getting the ball out quick and he was accurate.

Time will tell and I could be wrong but I think they found a decent QB and a direction on offense. It will still be tough for them to win games with their defense but they may be on to something on the offensive side of the ball.

Lol...this is typical. If you do better than expected or win against NFL/ECU, you either cheated, had an unfair advantage, or are underrated. No, SMU would not perform as well as other schools with the same schedule. Anyone that watches football should know that. Not bashing the team. They have had a rough year, but the talent gap is obvious to anyone not blind.

4 out of the 5 teams SMU has played this year are in the top 20

Baylor #5
TCU #9
TAMU #14
ECU #19

the weakest team on their schedule was north texas (not a weak team by any standard).

there are a bunch of schools that would take smu's place with that schedule.

RE: CBS Sports Bottom 25 - banker - 10-07-2014 08:51 PM

Would those teams only score 12 points in the first 4 games? Would they lose to North Texas 43-6?

Gee I thought this was a link to our OOC shedule.

Look, they scored 12 points in their first four games; two FG's and an end of game hail mary, and gave up around 200 points. They then go to ECU and go up and down the field for 24 points, doubling their season total in one game.

I know ECU fans wish and hope no one will notice this fact but a team that appears to be better than UNT should not have allowed that many points on their home field. Off game for the Pirates? Maybe.....but facts is facts. It really shouldn't have been an 11 point game at the end of 3 quarters (35-24) if we are to consider ECU on par with the rest of SMU's competition.

Playing in the AAC, home to four programs on this list (SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, and UConn) plus the free-falling Houston and struggling USF, should help.
