East Carolina vs South Florida - NBPirate - 10-07-2014 10:09 AM

Line is ECU -15

Didn't see a thread discussing below, so here.

Quote:Carden will not have to search far for motivation against the Bulls. Last week, USF defensive lineman Eric Lee said there was “nothing special” about Carden and that “he’s like any other quarterback. He’s short, that’s … the only assessment,” according to a Tampa Bay Times article.

Carden has thrown 15 touchdowns to just three interceptions this season and his 1,879 passing yards are the sixth-most among quarterbacks across the country.
Lee’s coach, Willie Taggart, naturally tried to extinguish the inflammatory comments, saying, “I don’t think he was looking at the same East Carolina film,” but not before they ran its course on social media and to the Pirates.

Carden, however, decided to take the high road upon learning about what Lee had said about him.

“It is what it is,” he said, smiling. “People are going to talk before the game. We had somebody else talk before one of our games (likely referencing North Carolina’s Tim Scott) and we handled it on the field.”

RE: East Carolina vs South Florida - CyberBull - 10-07-2014 10:53 AM

The only way USF has a shot is if our very secondary plays the game of their young careers. If ECU gets up big early on busted plays or well executed plays down the field USF will have to abandon the running game, which is isn't in USF best interest.

Secondly, USF needs to be smart on how it puts pressure on Carden. If he is allowed to break contain it will negate any strong performance by the secondary. Our DL is getting better every week but we are VERY young along unit as well.

On offense, I think USF can have some success running the football and making plays down the field if White can get some time in the pocket. SMU had some success moving the ball and unlike the Ponies....we have a FG kicker that will convert so USF has to take advantage of all scoring opportunities.

This will be a good test for my Bulls. I am not in the prediction business but it wouldn't surprise me if we won, kept it close or if the game gets out of hand. With young teams it's hard to know what to expect week in and week out.

I don't think that ECU is a good matchup for USF. I think that USF matches up better with power running teams like Wisconsin, because USF can sit almost exclusively on the run. ECU is spread team that passes first, but can actually run it out of the spread.

Running the ball is USF's bread and butter on offense, which is a good thing because the USF quarterback only completes 40% (32/80) of his passes. ECU is 2nd in the AAC (UCF is 1st) and 17 nationally (UCF is 16th nationally) in rushing defense. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/24

I just don't think that this is a good matchup for USF. If your quarterback was good at hitting short quick passes to sustain drives, then I would think that things would favor USF. However, he is not good at short quick passes; so this might get out of hand like that NCSU game for USF if the Bulls can't get their defense off the field.

RE: East Carolina vs South Florida - NBPirate - 10-07-2014 11:23 AM

A couple of thoughts:

1) Its not in USF's best interest to blitz a ton as Carden has been known to eat blitzing teams alive with short slants to the blitzing side with YAC for days

2) Our D has to step up and play better than it showed against SMU. That was a poor, poor performance.

3) Run D is our strength. We're a top 25 run defense in the country.

4) We have to eliminate stupid penalties and secure the ball

My prediction:

ECU 49 USF 24

I propose this game be called the geography bowl. The trophy would be a world globe that doesn't make any sense.

That is some excellent analysis.

He wasn't trolling. Get a map. You guys aren't even in South Florida. At least East Carolina is east of things.

It is trolling because it has nothing to do with the game

If this game ever gets a trophy, it needs to be something Skip Holtz related.

A trophy in the shape of a steering wheel? Holtz was big on "turning" and doing something else.

Or perhaps a heisemanesque trophy in the shape of a punter.

Well it looks like he caught you in his net. So his trolling was successful.

USF has a good DL.Will be interesting to see how ECU's QB handles their pressure.

The Geography Bowl is already a thing in North Carolina. ECU are the current champions.

Anti-Geography bowl?

On the actual game, I do think it will be closer than the records/rankings suggest. A 2 TD point spread seems too high to me.

RE: East Carolina vs South Florida - Knights_of_UCF - 10-08-2014 08:03 AM

This will be the best offense usf has played it'll be interesting to see how their defense holds up. Nc state loss is looking really bad right now considering nc state was held to 150yds of offense and 35 passing yards yet racked up career highs vs usf with almost 600 yds of offense

The losing team should get the "Really good effort" trophy. 03-nutkick
