Toledo win 13-10? - UofToledoFans - 10-06-2014 03:49 PM

My other video buddies and I thought that the WMU field goal to go up 13-10 was wide. After watching the replay for the first time today, I think it is possible their kicker missed. I've tried to freeze frame it and all I can get is the frame before where the ball is basically next to the goal post. You can watch the espn3 replay to see what I mean. Not that it matters...just an interesting thing I've been thinking about. Did anyone else pay attention to that kick?

It did angle weird on tv, but I remember seeing the kick on tv from behind. Unlike the Syracuse debacle where the ball clearly went in front of the post in real time and slow-mo.

Strange, I was at the game and told my wife he missed it... Only for it to be signaled as good.

Watched the game live on video and it looked to me like the field goal was missed. From what I can remember, they showed that replay from the same angle three different times. Each time I did my best to focus on the ball and the post. Each time it looked like a miss. Perhaps it was just the video frame rate and the angle.

Does anyone know if there is another view of the attempt?

Thought the same thing watching on my iPad. Same thought with the replay

I said he missed it at the game. Never saw the fair goal post disappear.

Same for me. From where I was, it looked like he missed live. I haven't watched the replay yet.

What did the announcer say? 03-wink

I remember a Tiger baseball game a year or so ago, where video's from both sides of the foul/fail pole made it look like the ball disappeared on a home run ball.

looked like it went through to me. You can see the ball cover the goalpost if you look closely.... not that it matters anyway.... :-(

It looked good to me live, and I checked the replay again it is sure looked good again. Not sure what others are seeing. If it was wide, I can't believe that the Toledo bench wouldn't have been livid, and they weren't.

ummmm

the camera shot was from behind the goalpost. Had he missed the ball would have gone behind the goalpost, not in front of it.

I watched it again. Very close. Inches. But froze it in premier and it was good.

the funny thing is us WMU fans probably would have been LESS mad had he missed that field goal compared to him missing the extra point....

except he probably would not have had a chance to kick the extra point.

At the time it happened, I thought he missed it - but I was watching on my PC on ESPN3 - so not a particularly large video feed to look at. I am usually pretty good at catching things like that when it happens - but there was something that made me believe after my first intuition that it was good. I think it was replaying it in my mind and realizing I saw the ball cross behind the goal post from the camera that was behind the goal post. It's easy to mistake that brief movement of the ball past the post that makes you think it passed in front of it when it is actually covering over the post that you see - then don't see for just a flash. I mistake the ball disappearing for that flash instead of the post all the time - but I can recall slightly afterward what I actually saw. If that didn't confuse you, then I'm not trying hard enough.

[hindsight 20/20]

We were home, underdogs and our kicking was inconsistent the whole game. Perfect reason to go for 2 points in that OT situation, win or lose.

Nope...not at all...I said the second they scored to go for two. When you have a shot at an upset on one play, you take it!

that's what I'm saying. Had he missed the field goal and we lose on a last second Toledo field goal... it would have just felt like we got beat. Losing on an extra point in overtime felt like we gave one away

RE: Toledo win 13-10? - therockets046 - 10-08-2014 05:57 PM

I was at the game and from the moment we lost the overtime coin toss, I was thinking, we'll get the TD, and they'll beat us on a 2 point try, or we'd get a FG and they'd beat us on a TD. Then when Wmu sent out the kicking team I was just waiting for somebody to run off in a funny direction, like The Air Force tried to do against us in 2011. I was anticipating so many other events to take place that I never even considered a failed attempt to tie the game as a possibility, but it happened and I was shocked and relieved and it totally stopped raining and warmed up about +30 degrees right at that very moment.

RE: Toledo win 13-10? - UofToledoFans - 10-08-2014 07:11 PM

Yeah... I was dreading the thought of WMU lining up for the 2pt and scoring. When they lined up for the PAT, I was confused because of the earlier block and the other PAT and FG attempts seemed shaky. Right away he doinked it and all relief poured over me.

If WMU makes it, then they get the ball first and still probably don't go for 2 because then Toledo knows what they have to do. Going for it as the unerdogs, in the first OT was the way to go IMO. You run a screen and throw blockers in front of the RB or whoever you throw it too and you have a pretty good chance of gaining the 3 yards.
