Seems like very little thought went into this.

WKY and BGSU already played this year....IMO swap BGSU and Akron

A NIU vs Boise St matchup would be a great TV matchup for ESPN who also owns these bowls.

Lame. CFN has obviously jumped the shark.

RE: CFN week 5 bowl projections - exCincy Kid1 - 10-01-2014 02:00 PM

CFN predictions are pretty much always a joke.

And that's putting it kindly.

I seem to recall reading something that the G5 conferences/bowls were going to work together to provide the best match-ups given the bowl tie-ins.

CMU is getting a lot of love here. I'm not as warm to them as others. WMU is my sleeper team to win 4 conference games and become eligible.

Thanks! CMU's beat Purdue and has looked like crap since.

Very possible. Very possible they end up about even -- CMU being sub-par to expectations, and WMU above-par -- and they both meet somewhere in the middle. Dunno.

I think the next 3 weeks will show what's up.

Exactly. WMU exceeds expectations while CMU doesn't which makes WMU the 'up and coming' program with the excitement that entails.

IF CMU and WMU are in a race for the last MAC bowl, WMU goes.

Umass is on the up and Ohio State is on the down. Ohio state will still go to the bowl lol?

WMU won't have 6 wins any way you draw it up baring more than one upset. CMU had the best defense in the conference before last week, and with Davis and Rawls don't sleep walk on offense either. Neither may go... but if one does it won't be WMU because they are on an upswing. That's not how football works. You need to be .500 to even be qualified.

RE: CFN week 5 bowl projections - HuskieJohn - 10-02-2014 09:39 AM

If CMU does not make a bowl game this year is the coach finished?

RE: CFN week 5 bowl projections - Okie Chippewa - 10-02-2014 12:34 PM

Predicting bowl matchups is ludicrous this early in the year. Of course it doesn't keep Jerry Palm and others from doing it even before the regular season starts.

I think WMU has a very possible schedule. They do have a few tough MAC West opponents, but do have BSU, CMU, EMU, Miami, Ohio, etc.

I can see four wins among that group.

We'll see Saturday night when the Broncs host the Rockets.

Jerry Palm is not very good either. Last year when NIU passed Fresno St in the BCS polls and he was surprised proved to me that he had no clue how the BCS system works...which seems to be a big part what his job.

If they go 7-5 but are denied a bowl, they'll keep him. If he goes under .500, they won't keep him. 6-6 but no bowl? Possibly. If they don't beat WMU at home -- Oh Yeah.

I think a big reason is CMU still has Miami/EMU/WMU/BSU left. Those teams have won a combined 5 games and only 1 in the conference. Not saying they are guaranteed wins, but CMU will likely be favored in all of them.

It's not to say CMU is a great team, it's to say they will likely get to 7 wins.
