It was a pleasure to see the camera scan through the big house, and to see the faces of the umich fans.

What a great weekend.

Oh, and I like UMinn's helmets.

Yeah..that was a pretty disconsolate looking bunch. The way ABC kept panning the crowd...it was pure misery porn.

Hoke still has a ton of support within the athletic department, but the folks who want him gone have smartly seized upon his decision to run a wobbly Shane Morris out there with what could have been a concussion.

RE: Off topic: pan shots of UMich fans enjoyable - Love and Honor - 09-29-2014 09:40 PM

Couldn't of happened to a nicer group of people...

And it could get worse. UM's AD has come under a lot of heat lately between their underperforming football program to the cold, corporate-like procedures the athletic department has followed since he was hired. One article speculated that his job was at risk and that Brad Bates, AD of Boston College, was one possible replacement out there. Bates is the former Miami AD who hired Shane Montgomery and Don Treadwell, I hope they hire him.

RE: Off topic: pan shots of UMich fans enjoyable - El Grande Flippero - 09-30-2014 08:49 AM

The Shane Morris situation has devolved into a complete fiasco. The AD Brandon knows on Sunday that the kid had a concussion, but doesn't tell Hoke...even though he knows that Hoke has a press conference every Monday. Hoke then has his presser and tells everyone that they don't know if Shane Morris has a concussion. Brandon then releases a statement about the kid's injury at 1am Tuesday...1 am!. You don't issue statements at one in the morning unless you really don't want to face any immediate questions. The whole thing stinks like a glass of Toledo water. Hoke should be fired for not seeing how badly Morris was wobbling around out there in the first place and Brandon should be fired for pretty much everything he's done and hasn't done since Saturday.

Your bitterness and schadenfreud are commendable. 04-cheers

I don't think Hoke has committed a fireable offense here. It was a mistake, no doubt, and they need to clean up their process.
Using this incident as an excuse to fire him would be chickenshit. Now, for his record over the last 14-15 games, he should be fired. When you take the UM job, you understand that a mediocre record is a fireable offense.

I do follow sports in addition to MAC sports. I'm guessing most others do, too.

Maybe some would argue that since I follow KSU football that I don't really follow college football. Fair point.

The kid took a shot to the head bad enough to give him a concussion....they got a 15 yard penalty, so Brady had to know somehting happened for them to have actuaslly gained yards (for once). Morris was wobbling around on the filed badkly enough that the radio and TV crews both had the same reaction; he has to come out of the game. The team neurologist was in the stands and felt compelled to head towards the sidelines so he could check Morris for a concussion. The replay of the hit was shown on both of the giant video boards in the "Big House". Hoke employs about a dozen coaches under him. You have all those eyes available and no one on the staff said "sit him now"? No one saw fit to get that kid out of there right away and no one had an issue with him going back into the game for aplay when Gardner lost his helmet? I'm sorry...but that level of incompetence when it comes to a brain injury is inexcusable. He should be fired

So fire all the coaches who should have known and all the medical staff who should have known. And the AD since he is responsible for all of them.

It's an overreaction. You make improvements in the way these things are handled so they don't happen again. Everybody with a twitter account thinks anyone who does something wrong should be fired. It's an epidemic of extreme reactions to every event.

The AD should be fired because he tried to cover it up from Saturday night until Monday night.

I thought UofM was pretty good the year they went 8-5 in 2012, but even then the coaching was just hand the ball to Denard Robinson. I'd keep him 1 more year unless he goes 3-9 or something like that. The o-line is pretty young, and even bottom Big 10 teams can pull wins off of the contenders. (which I think is the big thing that separates a bottom Big 10 team from an upper-tier MAC team)But if he's sending out players with concussions, that's an issue.

I had recorded the Utah/UofM game thinking Utah was in the Mount West and they'd get the 'upset' so watched that. Seems like I should've recorded the Minnesota game too.

Anyone have any pictures of the Big House early 4th Quarter of the Minnesota game?
Anyone have any video of UofMs QB showing signs he's concussed during the Minnesota game?

When a program perceives itself as one of the country's major programs (and they haven't been for a very long time now) loses 9 of its last 13 games, and this comes several years into a coach's tenure, they are going to fire the coach.

They are like Georgia--they are delusional about their place in the current college football world.

Overreaction? Hardly...you take a kid that 109,000 people could see had had his bell rung and you and your staff are so oblivious that you let him wobble through another play...risking God knows what kind of head trauma...and then you send him back out there for another play because you don't want to spend a time out? Are you aware of the many lawsuits that have been filed over concussions in college sports? Hoke's incompetence put the University at risk for a huge negligence suit and he needlessly endangered Shane Morris health.

Hell...the co chair of the Congressional brain injury caucus is sniffing around on this one.

RE: Off topic: pan shots of UMich fans enjoyable - axeme - 09-30-2014 05:38 PM

I disagree. Were they completely wrong in their handling of this incident? Of course. And stupid: you don't gain any competitive advantage by sending out a QB who is almost out on his feet. It seems obvious that they didn't know/hadn't been told. Your narrative suggest several things that are just your opinion, and are not really facts in evidence. How do you know what was going through Hoke's mind, or the other coaches? It's a major screw-up, and they should be accountable and will be when parents advise their sons on whether playing for these coaches is a good idea. They need to clean up the way they handle injuries.

I just don't get this country's recent obsession with wanting to fire anyone who screws up. Donald Trump must wield a powerful influence on people.

One of the problems with B1G expansion:

More states = more congressmen. See attached.

BTW, there are many articles there critical of UofM, Hoke and the AD.

Try the Mlive.com site and do searching. A friend sent me some photos from Sunday's paper showing the empty seats high in the corners of the end zone and the end zone itself.

Don't really give a **** about Trump or your feelings on where 'Merica is a headin'...

97.1 had a guest on this afternoon who was on the sidelines...he said the triaing staff was screaming to get Morris out of there. His teammate had to literally hold him up to keep him from falling...he was out on his feet. I don't need to read Hoke's mind to know that he should have seen what was going on and pulled the kid oimmediately. Failing to do so put the kid at a risk for a serious injury..putting the kid back in was completely inexcusable. Showing such a blatant disregard for the health of the players that you pledged to take care of while they are under your supervision ( a huge part of any recruiting pitch) is absolutely grounds for termination. Will get fired now? No...that isn't how it works in college football. Generally, coaches get to finish the season. Should he be fired now? yes...he should.

I'm 99% certain he's gone 10 minutes after the OSU game

RE: Off topic: pan shots of UMich fans enjoyable - axeme - 09-30-2014 07:08 PM

We agree that he's going to get fired. But he'll get fired because he's a failure at coaching football there.

I have as little idea about where the country is headed as the next guy, but I do see where it is: lots of backseat drivers and hindsight judges pronouncing sentences on whomever ***** up at anything. Except themselves.

Some people are saying he could get fired during the bye week before MSU. To give the team something to rally around or an excuse for the university to blow off a bad season.
