It would be really interesting to know how many recruits who are targeted by W&M and any [or many] of the above schools select W&M or select one of the above schools. Have we ever gotten a recruit who was also offered by one of the above schools???

Academically, Northeastern does not compete with any of the schools on the list above; however, it is in Boston, which is a college student social mecca. Harvard is also in Boston and has superior academics.

Lehigh, Princeton, Davidson, and W&M are all in small towns with limited student social life opportunities [compared to Boston]. Lehigh and Princeton both have superior Engineering and academics. Whereas, W&M does not offer an Engineering program.

All of the above schools, with the probable exception of Northeastern have tough requirements for admission.

Greg Malinowski had an offer from Princeton

Other than Davidson all the rest on the list are in areas that are colder than Williamsburg. Believe it or not, that matters to some recruits.

Hell, it came down to Cornell, Boston College, or William and Mary for me. Warmer weather was definitely a factor.

62Indian,

For some one who attended that bastion of academic excellence such as the prestigious College of William & Mary, apparently you've forgotten how to study before writing down your thoughts.

Northeastern is a top 50 college/university in this years USNWR rankings.

http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/page+5

So you have no idea what you're talking about. NU is now on a par with most of those aforementioned schools.

RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - Tribal - 05-12-2016 07:18 PM

Now that we cleared that up, let's get back to discussing all the players who will never step foot in Williamsburg.

There is an excellent article in the Boston Magazine about how NU "gamed" the US News college rating system to artificially inflate their rankings

http://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/article/2014/08/26/how-northeastern-gamed-the-college-rankings/

They essentially "reverse-engineered" the formulas used by USN&WR to calculate the ratings - and then focused exclusively on raising their rating numbers. Many colleges and Universities do this to some extent but apparently, NU is the "Best" at rigging the rankings.

Some examples: artificially building up the number of students who apply SO THAT MORE CAN BE REJECTED - this improves the all-important "Selectivity" number with respect to admissions.

Another example; making your average SAT scores [for accepted students] look better. NU is in the top ten schools in the nation in the percentage of foreign students enrolled [almost 20%] Not only do foreign students pay full price - they also are not required to take any pre-admission tests SO the SAT SCORES for 20% of the student body are not included in the "Average" scores for SATs reported to the public or to the USN&WR.

Moral of the story is: geewizNU should do HIS homework before he contradicts a 62Indian

RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - Tribal - 05-13-2016 10:56 AM

I must be honest, the moderator in me wanted this thread to get back on track, but the smack talker is curious...very curious in where this goes.

That said, this topic needs to move to the OFF TOPIC sub-forum.

2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - ocfrank - 05-16-2016 07:40 AM

We need to be recruiting guys who see themselves as players and students, rather than students and players.

RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - WillaMary08 - 05-18-2016 11:37 AM

The offers aren't being given out with the same frequency as they were a couple of weeks ago but Geo Baker picks one up from Rice.

Northeastern is in my view the most prestigious University in the CAA after W&M.

Baker with an offer from Stony Brook. Stefanovic with an offer from Xavier.
