It's the longest "dry spell" I can remember, since we "got respectable". Hope something breaks our way soon.
We really don't want to go into next season with only one big man (and, NO, Paul does not count. He's a 3-4, not a 4-5).

RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - tribeintexas - 06-20-2017 12:45 PM

If nothing happens, we may have to use Paul Rowley and Oliver Tot in the middle. Or we could hold an open tryout at Blow Gym for students over 6ft 8in.
All these movements in college basketball are not good.

RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - bubbadog57 - 06-20-2017 03:23 PM

Not only would using Rowley in the post be self-defeating but it would rob us of Paul's great versatility roaming the open court and his three-point shooting. With two seasons remaining Paul has a chance to develop into a pretty good player at the 3-4 positions.

Frankly I just don't know if we have any options if the Florida move doesn't happen.

Don't laugh at the open tryout idea for those over 6'8" (if any) who played in high schools. Many, many years ago W&M famously had a guy from the fraternity league named Bob Hoitsma who, when a forward position was decimated by injury, was added to the team after an all-interested call at the end of pre-season practice, made the team, ended up starting and leading the team in rebounds and played two seasons.

The walk on idea isn't stupid at all. I'm sure someone like Jerry Ugokwe would clog up the middle. I don't think we've got any more 6'8" football players, but that angle wouldn't be stupid especially for a senior with no more football eligibility. Maybe Andrew Caskin? He'd move people out of the middle.

Yeah, you really only need someone to give Knight a breather and to fill in when foul trouble pops up.

We were interested in 6ft 10in Haeffner twins. Are they available? I am sure they are better than someone from the street.

They're both going to MIT.

Saw where Richmond offered 6'9" 230lb PF, Rey Idowu, out of Melbourne, Fl. He graduated, but appears to be considering post grad due to flying under the radar and lack of offers other than a few recent MM offers. GPA greater than 4.0 with 1350 SAT, so he has the academics. If any of the staff read this board, he appears skilled enough to have upside, and would be a great late addition, if could persuade to forego a post grad year. Doubt we'd get a sniff if he delays to the 2018 class. He attended Princess Anne HS in Va Beach before moving to FL. Just what we need.

I sincerely hope that the staff doesn't read this board...

I just shattered my Tribe basketball pint glass. I'm not superstitious but the Greek side of my family would say that's good luck. I'm sure we will see the fruit of that luck shortly.

I'm sure a lot of folks read this board including AD staff. Hard to tell who's who. For all I know Big Tribe 3 might be Jim Root

Because if the Tribe staff comes here to get tips on who we should be recruiting, we've got bigger problems than we realize.

I sincerely doubt that if the Tribe staff reads this forum their purpose is to get tips on recruiting. A more likelyreason would be to treat it as a focus group.

If the staff doesn't monitor these boards, they need to. Not to be told how to do there job or who to recruit, but this board represents the top 1% in Tribe fandom. Everyone who posts here has voiced their appreciations and concerns above and beyond what a casual Tribe fan would care to. The coaching staffs and administrators should be aware and working towards a product being presented in a way the paying public want- Including ticket buyers, merch buyers, concession buyers, and in step with local and/or alumni donating patrons. The administrators can and should disregard much of what they read here, but they certainly should be aware.

That said, if they would just follow our recruiting advice they would be all set 03-thumbsup

Maybe we should get some patches made up.

Some of you already brought this up: I talked with a current football player and he stated that Dedmon is the best athlete he's ever known. Dedmon plays a lot of pick-up basketball; he has incredible handle and can dunk flat-footed. I wouldn't discount the possibility of him giving basketball a shot unless he believes he has a chance to make a NFL squad.
