Brown is an interesting prospect. Seems decently athletic with a wiry frame, but does seem like a decent passer from the high post with long arms for putbacks and shot blocks.

Wouldn't mind him developing over the next 4 years here. Would love even more if we could get him and the UF grad transfer so that Brown would be the 3rd big next year if we were able to sign him.

That's not really a list of schools I want to be associated with. Some aren't even D-I

zablenoise, we need at least someone to play center for 10 or 15 minutes a game and more if Knight keeps fouling. Plus anyone to bang around with him in practice.

He looks just like Paul Rowley from a body type.

Any local kids who might be going DII who want to walk on as a C/F? Who is the starter at Richard Bland??

Same purpose without wasting scholarship...

UT-Chattanooga offered him two weeks ago after hiring the Wisconsin Assoc HC as their new coach. Wisconsin has had a pretty good track record for getting under the radar big men and developing them into very good players. Brown has played this spring for the same AAU program as Isa Maguire. All his D1 offers have come with his spring AAU play. Brown started an official visit to UT-C yesterday, and is taking an unofficial to Murray State on Sunday. He stated last week he hoped to take a few visits before deciding. Probably a good sign that he started following Jonathan today and hasn't committed on his visit. He averaged 13pts/7reb on a 26-3 HS team, and appears much improved. May 17th is last signing day to be binding. A lot of work to do in short order, if we are trying to get in the ballgame.

Staff obviously still working very hard on 2017.

So I was having this discussion with friends the other day. It might be worth it to hold on to a scholarship and even out the classes a bit even if that means that we'll be playing short handed for a year or two. Is it really worth it to scrape the bottom of the barrel on 2017 recruits? Everyone who is worth recruiting probably is already signed. And I have trouble believing that the 6th or 7th player who commits to W&M in 2018 will be a real game changer. It's not a popular opinion and will definitely hurt the program in the short term but it may be the best way to deal with this issue down the road.

I think using one 2017 slot on a HS big man who shows potential for development is of real value, with all of the 2018 slots available.

I agree with TH. I think where the balancing act will come about is next year. We will probably work hard to get a couple transfers (2-3 year guys), along with a max of 5 freshmen. That will reset the classes a little bit, right there.

Back in the day :-)

There used to be W&M students who were very good basketball players, and played on strong Intramural teams.

Any diamonds already on campus who might be willing to help out?

Maybe Comey will come back and use up some eligibility!

Would hope that if the hard work doesn't pay off with all 3 slots filled, that Jamison would be a recipient for his last year.

Amen!!! Would love to see Glover get a scholly next year if we have an extra one. He deserves it!

We need at least 3 big men around 6ft 8in ~ 6ft 9in. We need to add one HS big man in addition to FL grad. transfer.

Brown was named 1st team at a 17U AAU event in DC last week, along with 2018 Tribe offer Tyrese Halliburton. The fact he is still able to compete in what was essentially a 2018 class event makes him a young graduating senior.

Justin Brown – 2017 – C – Illinois Young & Reckless

An unsigned senior that boosted his recruiting stock big-time with his play in DC. Despite his slender 6-10 frame, he is strong with the basketball in his hands, and he does a good job of keeping the ball away from slapping guards. His plus athleticism helps him finish at the rim…mostly with dunks! He seems comfortable working beyond the paint too, and is a good post passer. Watch his highlights

I agree too. Take a chance on an athletic kid who may not be the classic high school superstar who may develop. Or......get a 6'5" kid who is built like a truck who can give you minutes and play defense. We have exactly 1 center, and god forbid.......what if he gets hurt?

I like Justin Brown. Athletic with lots of upside. Hopefully, if we offered, we aren't too late. Has an official lined up for UT- Chattanooga and unofficial to Murray St.

Glover deserves a scholarship his senior year even if we don't have an "extra" one. All this talk of excess scholarships makes it a no-brainer to give one to Glover to reward him for his team spirit.

There's never a mention of tapping into a pool of difference makers; players from Senegal. There's a stream of these kids being placed in prep schools located in places recruit from; i.e. New England, the Southeast. They win roster spots on all sorts of teams and are making their mark professionally. I don't know if we have the willingness. It's time to wake up!!

One week remaining in the late signing period. They are still scrambling to fill one more spot, but it really looks like they are running out of targets. I am a bit mystified by so many players choosing to go elsewhere, but in most cases, it was closer proximity for them to the schools they ultimately choose.

Let's keep fingers crossed for a nice surprise between now and next Wednesday.
