Because he sat out a year after transferring from Stanford I believe he is a red-shirt junior thus a grad student with a year left of eligibility. I could be wrong though.

Interesting ... could be our Alex Murphy

2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - Tribeheart - 03-31-2017 09:57 PM

I'm not sure he has any eligibility left. Played 2 games in the fall of his soph year at Stanford before transferring mid-semester and got a waiver to only sit out the spring semester and play the start of his junior year. This was his senior year, so he has played in games 4 years running, and no inference that there was any medical redshirt to waive those 2 games played as a soph at Stanford. Maybe he is interested in coming on as a graduate assistant somewhere and working with bigs?

After all, if we don't get a big man commit in this class, there is no one to go head to head with Nathan in practice. If Rimmer came on board as a grad asst., he could fill that void. Or, even if we get a big man commit, could not the monies for the 3rd open scholly be used to cover him as a grad asst and then we get his help to develop our post men?

Outlaw 2017 RHP @tbruninga32 already holds 7 D1 basketball offers. He's thought about trying both sports at the college level...
Taylor Bruninga, sr. P-1B, Illini Bluffs: Bruninga was an outstanding pitcher last season and was a 2016 all-state selection. He was 5-2 with one save and a 0.71 ERA and 0.76 WHIP. He hit .380 and drove in 22 runs while scoring 16.

Not many 6'9" college pitchers around.

Right - Here is the Relief Pitcher we need this year.

He's probably going to get drafted given his size and upside

Well, looks like Wednesday night will be the time to go out and buy a fresh box of Jiffy Pop, then pull up a chair next to the computer on Thursday and hope something, besides the popcorn, "pops".

Fingers crossed.

Looks like UNCW will join us in a nervous signing period coming up. They apparently just lost all of their recruits I think I read except for maybe 1 JUCO transfer now that Keatts left and McGrath was hired.

Have a weird feeling we are going to end up with at least 1 really good additional player in this 2017 class with all this scrambling and surprise extra scholarships. Gonna be interesting.

Bruninga is on his official visit to Northern Iowa.

RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting - mrjoolius - 04-06-2017 12:08 PM

We already discussed that perhaps coaches are playing things close to the vest, but it concerns me that none of these 2017 targets are mentioned taking or planning official visits with the Tribe. I'm not sure if the late recruiting start has kept us from generating traction or not, but other than excitement over the initial offer, I've seen nada mentions as a strong contender. These coming weekends are typically the most important with signing day in less than 2 weeks. Pressure will be applied by these schools to commit or risk losing the offer. There is still plenty of time and plenty of recruits capable of contributing, just a little frustrating that we can't seem to get our foot in the door. That said, I most likely am overreacting.

I am probably more concerned than I need to be, as well, by the lack of news, but sometimes, recruiting is like that.

On a side note, VCU has now lost their entire recruiting class for next season. Mike Rhoades will really have to scramble now. If Jack really wants a place to do his Masters work, I could see VCU definitely being a landing spot, now.

Know VCU lost 3 of 5, but think they still have 2??

Still waiting for something to pop, other than my jiffy-pop, billymac.

Hey, TH. They had four signees (Top 60 class). The fourth just asked for, and was granted, his release yesterday.

This is incorrect.

They had 4 signees in the 2017 class, but only lost 2. Batts and Kiir were granted releases, while Santos-Silva and Mobley have reaffirmed their commitments to VCU.

The third signee you may have seen granted his release is Kevin Easley, who is part of the 2018 class.

Looks like I did get 2117 and 2118 mixed together. My bad.

Greg Calixte picks up an offer from South Florida.
