Coaches Luncheon Today 9/10 @ 12 noon - Dennis Hoopster - 09-10-2014 12:34 PM

Anyone attend? Any feedback from CC and/or Murphy? Attendance?

RE: Coaches Luncheon Today 9/10 @ 12 noon - Ken Barna - 09-10-2014 01:17 PM

Dear Dennis,
I attended with my brother. There were about twenty-five people in attendance.
This is what I gleaned from Coach Creighton: The reason Bell has been the starting quarterback is his completion percentage is better then Roback's. It has been better through fall camp and better in the two games played. I then asked why haven't we thrown the ball downfield? His answer surprised me. We are not ready yet. Meaning the receivers are not running the routes correctly. He then went on to say he is a passing coach. His offensive coordinator is a passing coach. The team is just not there yet. I got the impression, that even though he said the team is working very hard, and trying to do what the coaches want, it's like that old saying, "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh-t".
Coach Creighton impressed me as very open, direct, and realistic about the program. I came away thinking this is the right guy to make Eastern a winner.

That's interesting because people I've talked to have said the complete opposite regarding Roback vs Bell!!!! That sounds like a horse**** answer. Maybe someone should also let Coach Creighton know that we have the best TE in the MAC. I have no faith in this clown. Losing 65-0 to an unranked team, disgraceful.

I echo the appreciation of the others.

I was of the opinion that Coach Creighton inherited a program that was worse off than anyone knew. I stand by that perception based on his comments to you. Who am I to doubt him? I've never coached a day of football in my life and I sure as hell have never turned a football team from a losing legacy into a winning one.

From where I sit, I'm just an alumnus and fan, I'm willing to give him time. After all, what else do we have? With that statement I don't mean forever but at least a chance to not only put his system in place bu also get his own guys.

I gotta agree with Bob, you don't have to be a coach to see the difference in talent between Roback and Bell. Additionally, I've also heard that Roback has had a much better camp and practices since the beginning of the season. I hate to be all doom and gloom, because I think Creighton is a good person, but this shows a complete inability to judge talent, which will be reflected in the types of athletes he recruits. Being able to recognize talent and then mold it is the measure of good coach. Creighton doesn't look up to the task as of yet, maybe he will get there. I imagine Roback will be gone at the end of the year, what a shame.

I'm more concerned that he's not being truthful with the people.

I worry about this as well. I mean, it's not like he was a lock to come to EMU in he first place. He only came here because his older sister was already a student here.

Two games in and you are already resorting to calling him names? Wow.

Your posts are excessively negative. EMU went 2-10 last year. They played a team with a TON of talent(injuries killed the Gators last year) and speed in only the 2nd game of a new coaching regime.

I’m not surprised that they got annihilated. UF was looking to make a statement and that they did.

I have no idea if Creighton is or isn’t the guy, but he deserves time to build his program before people flay him for his failures. We all know how bad this program has been so why are people getting so upset at blowout losses? We have seen this for years.

I want Roback to start as well, but I’m not going to pitch a fit if he doesn’t. This team is bad regardless of who starts.

Thank you for that assessment. I agree. Besides, it really doesn't matter if "we" pitch a fit on this forum or not. Coach Creighton is in the first year of his contract and isn't going anywhere any time soon. All we can do is sit back and see what he can do. We can either rip Coach Creighton or we can support him. I think now is the time to support him. If we haven't improved in year three then we can call him a charlatan. If anyone expected a magical season with our out of conference schedule they were delusional.

Nooooo. If you know anything about preseason rankings, it is based solely on projection of talent and what teams are expected to do. Florida is not expected to have a great season, HENCE they were not ranked in the top 25. After their 65-0 ass whipping of Eastern, they were STILL NOT in the top 25.

RE: Coaches Luncheon Today 9/10 @ 12 noon - Ken Barna - 09-10-2014 09:03 PM

Dear Bob Wickersham,
Why would Coach Creighton lie about the quarterback situation? If you doubt what he is saying all you have to do is check the statistics of the first two games. As far as fall camp goes, the only thing I read on this site was that someone said they know one of the team's managers who said that Roback looked better then Bell. Now you say you have sources that say Roback is better than Bell. Who are they?

RE: Coaches Luncheon Today 9/10 @ 12 noon - scaggie - 09-10-2014 10:27 PM

Once again , for a fact, C.C. and Deboer are Not telling the truth about what has gone on the past two weeks in practice and games. The players were shocked that Bell was the starting QB. Here is the breakdown of practices and games :
Morgan State week:
Tues: Bell 4 ints. Roback 0
We'd : Bell 2 ints. Roback 0
Thurs, Bell 1 ints. Roback 0
End of story, Bell started.. I guess someone needs to go back to Math class 101.... Roback was 7/14 with 4 dropped passes in the receivers hands.. Which would make Roback 11/14( if you were at the game , you know what I'm talking about!!! C.C and Deboer can sugar coat it all they want, or talk out of both sides of their mouth.
Florida game week:
Tues: Bell 2 ints.Roback 0
Wed: Bell 2 ints, Roback 0
Thurs: Bell 2 Ints. Roback 0
If my 101 math class serves me right, 13 interseptions for Bell and zero for Roback. And CC and DeBoor says the reason Bell is starting in front of Roback is because of his percentage.., I guess we stop keeping percentages after two a days!!! The Florida game look at the box score. Once again, Roback was five for 10 with two dropped passes right in the receivers hands, which would have made him 7/10
At C.C 's luncheon, he says the receivers are not ready??? Is it funny that Creel and Russell were Roback's favorite receivers last year and did well, Bull****., we might be the only NCAA team without a passing touchdown this year!!! Let Roback throw the ball! Has our longest pass been 10 to 15 yards this year downfield so far??
DeBoer and CC if you don't like Roback let him know?? I agree with others, he can go elsewhere!!! Once again there is a reason why Roback started the last five games last year over to upperclassman!

I believe that it is CC during the football season and then there will be a series for Murphy during the basketball season.

I'd be surprised if we see Murphy before November.

Its not perfect with CC he hasn't coached at the Div I level so yes its a learning curve for him and some of this staff. But I can't recall the program being as fan friendly and actually doing outreach as much as CC has. He is in for a rough ride but I haven't seen him turn on the players-yet. This team will test his character. I've been pleased with the recruiting efforts. 15-16 verbals in early September is impressive and yes some of the players have multiple Div I offers. The positives outweigh the negatives.

RE: Coaches Luncheon Today 9/10 @ 12 noon - Ken Barna - 09-11-2014 07:44 AM

Dear scaggie,
Boy, let's please try to be a bit more truthful in your presentation of so called facts. You are talking about interceptions in practice, but never talk about completions in practices. I don't know about what goes on in practices, but I would tend to believe what the coaches are saying.
Let's go to the game statistics, which you only conveniently only showed Roback's. Bell's were 11 - 16 and his longest toss was for 14 yards. Roback's longest 8 yards. Those were for the Morgan State game.
Overall statistics for the two games played: Bell was 13 - 22 for a 59 percentage, and Roback was 12 - 24 for a 50 percentage of completions.
Now, I am not going to say who should be playing and who should not, but if you are going to challenge what the coaches are saying, at least be objective and honest about it.
