Quote:Two games removed from signing a contract extension, June Jones resigned as SMU’s football coach on Monday, citing personal issues.
Defensive coordinator Tom Mason will serve as head coach for the rest of the season. Quarterbacks coach Dan Morrison and co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Jason Phillips will be co-offensive coordinators.
“It was a very difficult decision for me to make, as you can imagine,” Jones said in a statement. “I have devoted my life for the last 50 years to playing and coaching this game and it has been a great journey.
"This job has a lot of demands, as you know, and along with that journey comes a price that is paid. I have some personal issues I have been dealing with and I need to take a step away so I can address them at this time."
Officially he resigned, behind the scenes I'm guessing there was mounting pressure to drop the ax at some point anyway. He certainly didn't help himself with a 5-7 record last year and 0-2 to start this season after getting sha-lacked 88-6 in those two games. I certainly don't wish the man any ill will and I hope he can work out his personal issues.

Thank God we won't hear any "Tommy Tuberville to SMU" rumors, or flight tracker memos for private jets coming into Lunken from Dallas, or anything like that.

I loved what he did at Hawaii. Looks like the game passed him by, though.
