Britton Banowsky/ CUSA Football - MUHERD76 - 09-08-2014 02:09 PM

Got to give credit where credit is due.....CUSA is now the top football conference in the G5. Consider the fact that Banowsky landed the bowl games he did and added the additional TV exposure.....He's done a great job as has the CUSA front office. Congrats to Banowsky and the entire team at CUSA.

I am excited and all about CUSA, but isn't this a bit premature after 2 weeks?

Let's slow down a bit

Lol. The AAC should be honored that your two best wins are against us.

I dont think it is. We are undefeated as a conference against other G5 members. Until we get proven otherwise, we are the best G5 conference out there right now. NBC sports agree.

Yep. And two weeks of ooc play is half of what we will play. Assuming we don't completely screw things up the rest of our ooc schedules, we are going to have the best gang of 5 record.

Or it could be said that your two worst loses were against us. See, both of us can play that game.

All for us performin well currently... but out bowl tie ins are absolute ****. Dont try to spin the unspinnable. Hawaii and bahamas are awful for fans.

I do agree about the bowl tie ins...We desperately need a bowl for fans to travel closer in the South or middle Atlantic for teams like WKU, MTSU, Southern Miss, Marshall, UAB, ODU and Charlotte...If you are in Texas and Florida you are set....Would love to see us get a tie in to bowl in Birmingham, Myrtle Beach, Virgina Beach, Nashville...

Wait, there are bowl games in Myrtle and Virginia Beach? I didn't even know they had stadiums at Myrtle and Virginia Beach.

And even when ODU builds its stadium, it's probably not going to be in the 28-30,000 seat range, which isn't big by bowl game standards. Plus Norfolk weather during bowl season is often pretty crummy. Nothing says "bowl destination" like a nor'easter in late December!

I'm still mad the HOD got booted from New Year's Day. Other than that, I think he is doing okay.

G5/P5 are not real distinctions in the NCAA construct. We, CUSA are the sixth best conference (today) in Division I football period. Our strategic message needs to be all conferences are equal and in the pecking order based on current strength (today) we rank sixth. Improve the schedule, require the power conference schools to share access and lobby lawmakers to prevent bias in bowl and championship access shoul be the goal. I don't know, are we 30 years too late? The NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, 468 U.S. 85 (1984) case started us down the road we are now traveling.

Let me clarify, new bowl games or bowls that can replace a couple of existing bowls....Yea if you are a North Texas, UTEP, UTSA, RIce, FAU, FIU fan you are really pleased with our bowl tie ins and have no complaints...

RE: Britton Banowsky/ CUSA Football - FIUFan - 09-09-2014 08:41 AM

It's not that we're unbeaten against other G-5's so much as it is the performance all schools (well most) are putting in each week. I don't see any of them falling off a cliff; and with the quick start, going .500 the rest of the way (OOC) bodes well for a strong slot in the G-5 rankings.

Also, Sunny bowl games in touristie areas will be a fine reward for all the schools who get their 6 wins. And keeping the players happy is what it's really all about; isn't it?

Cannot be any worse than in 2012 driving to Detroit for a bowl game with 7 inches of snow falling....Lets see Detroit in late DEc. or Mrytle Beach?
