Hosey Williams doesn't want much, aside from a championship and a 1,000-yard season.

Senior running back Williams led the University of Cincinnati football team with 655 yards rushing last year, and he scored four touchdowns. The Bearcats went 9-4 overall and finished third in the American Athletic Conference at 6-2, and Williams is aiming higher this year.

"My goals are to win the conference and try to be a contender for the national championship," Williams said. "And, to be one of the top rushers in the nation and help my team."

Miami (Florida) native Williams also seeks that magical figure for running backs, the 1,000-yard season.

"That's something I strive big on," Williams said. "I definitely want to get 1,000. Over 1,000. I want to set my marks high."

Williams also caught four passes last year for 21 yards. UC may throw to him more this year.

Williams, whose first name is pronounced Ho-ZAY, has been the No. 1 running back during preseason camp. Last year, Williams shared the work at running back with Ralph David Abernathy IV (518 yards rushing) and Tion Green (412).

This year, senior Abernathy has been moved to slot receiver. At running back, Williams leads another potential "committee" approach with junior Green and senior Rod Moore. Moore has been switched back to offense after playing cornerback last year.

"Hosey has really grown up," UC coach Tommy Tuberville said. "He's had a good fall practice running No. 1. We'll see what happens."

Williams, built low to the ground at 5-foot-9 and 199 pounds, joined UC last season as a junior college transfer from ASA College in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Williams quickly established himself in the running back rotation. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry to lead UC running backs.

"He's an older guy," Tuberville said. "He played college football, in terms of two years of starting as a junior college guy who got knocked around. Last year, he got better and better each game."

Williams said he is more comfortable in the UC system now, after adjusting to major college ball last season.

"Last year I was just out there playing," Williams said. "This year I really know what I'm doing. I really understand the offense, the blocking schemes and all that. By me being so comfortable in the offense, I'm able to produce more."

Williams knows that others will get their carries, notably Green. Abernathy also is expected to slip into the backfield for certain packages.

"It's a nice little challenge," Williams said. "We're competing. All of us make each other better every day. At any given time, any one of us can pick up the slack."

I'm hoping one of the backs has a little fire in his belly, any running attack at all can only benefit what should be a monster passing attack.(provided Kiel is as good as advertised.)

We're going to need the running game. Kiel is a first year starter, he won't be able to carry the load every game. He'll have ups and downs. A guy like Hosey needs to step up and carry us when Kiel is down.

I think our offense will be fine, just wish we had a tune up game before Toledo.

yup...that game against Stony Brook is looking mighty good about now. It's funny that an FCS home opener would mean so much...usually I roll my eyes when I see them on the schedule.

Good god I can't believe we don't have a game for two freaking weeks. Garbage.

I just stated an opinion and defended it. My feelings on the subject haven't changed, not sure there's any benefit in going over it again. I just think it's pretty funny how out of all the ones I named, that particular religion gets people up in arms.

RE: UC's Williams wants a title and 1,000 yards - rosewater - 08-31-2014 03:29 PM

Religion? My post was about whether Hosey had a gut last year.

Completely misinterpreted the significance of the belly. Had the wrong one altogether XD
My sincere apologies, assuming you're not trolling me.

haha I commented last year that Williams had a lil' belly and I didn't like it because it didn't fit my idea of a running back and some on the board agreed and some disagreed...that thread probably went on too long but it was kind of funny....

It basically took the thread from a football post to a TMZ post
