Real story - uiniu57 - 08-28-2014 02:30 PM

Saw the story in The Daily Chronicle confirming that WLBK is no longer the "flagship station" for the Huskie radio network:

http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2014/08/27/niu-football-to-be-heard-on-92-5-fm-wcpt/a9k3kbq/

A long and historic relationship ends supposedly because the owner of Nelson Broadcasting -- which purchased WLBK a few years back -- isn't a Huskie fan and thought the university was taking advantage and too much money from the "partnership." Can't stand when people from outside of town (Nelson from Sandwich-Plano area) come in and have no respect for the past. Despite the claim on their website of being DeKalb County's News, Sports and Information Station, when you click on "Local Sports Headlines" it says all you need to know about Nelson's WLBK: No local information.

I was surprised nobody else was as dissapointed as I was when they announced the FM station as the new flagship. It doesn't really matter, but I would be lying if I said I was happy about it.

RE: Real story - HuskieJWN - 08-28-2014 02:49 PM

I haven't had experience with the new station, but I liked wlbk. I never had streaming issues from my phone or iPad, that's how I listen to pregame and rod Carey show.

I tried the new station here in Dallas Monday and had no luck. It was playing some Walsh show.

I was mad they changed it after being able to successfully stream. Guy seems like a douche.

92.5 sounded great on the drive home tonight.

Damn, they were on 92.5 too? 560 was cutting out on the way home from HS....really miss the Score.

+2. The game sounded fantastic on clearer FM signal. However, I do miss it not being on WLBK. That relationship went back to the beginning of time. F the new owner. If the Cubs can leave WGN, I guess we can leave WLBK.

I left when the rain really started to piss down. 560 was pretty scratchy leaving HS, so I switched over to 92.5 and it was clear as a bell for the ride home to Plano. I hadn't listened to 92.5 since I was a student, so I had no idea how far it would carry. Not that Plano's all that far.

I know I have gotten 92.5 out to Glendale Heights without issue.

RE: Real story - baltimorehuskie - 08-29-2014 10:11 AM

As an alumni network engineer for Huskie broadcasts on WLBK, it saddens me that WLBK is no longer the flagship station of the Huskies. Memories of many a day and night at the old studios at 711 N. 1st Street - Chris Coleman almost leading the basketball team to an upset of Texas Tech in the NCAA tourney, Leshon-o-meter at Iowa in 1993, the BS 4th down call at Camp Randall in 1992, and so many other memories are still very strong 20 years later. I understand that times change and it's inevitable, but it's still sad. Hope the FM signal is good for everyone.

I lost 92.5 on my ride home around Burlington. Had to switch to AM. Pretty shocked at the lack of range.

That is odd. Last night I got it clear driving back to home...though now that I remember I had to switch to 560 at 88 and 47 because 92.5 cut back to their original programming...but there was only a few more min left of Baker giving out other scores before they signed off so they didnt miss much if any NIU coverage.

RE: Real story - HuskieJWN - 08-29-2014 12:49 PM

I don't know who all streamed the radio? But my brother was working late and he works close to cowboy stadium here in Texas and both stations weren't streaming the game thru computer or phone.

I double checked for him as well and I had the same issue. Granted I was able to watch the game so I didn't need the radio, but it was disappointing the stream didn't go through. Never had this issue with WLBK
