OT: The NEW Official Soccer Thread (CL Week 2) - Kronke - 10-01-2014 01:57 PM

Enrique is getting smoked, why is Moreno not playing?

LOL, off the back of Skrtel's head, off Lovren's back, WOAT Mignolet slaps it straight to their CF who is 3 yards out, and he smashes it in.

Basil is terrible. We're just worse.

A lot wrong with this Liverpool team right now. It's painful watching their inability to create chances in the final third against any team that defends.

Basel is a really good team, nothing to be ashamed of if you're Liverpool....unless your name is Mario.

Exactly. A lot of good sides have gone into Basel and come out with less points than they expected in the CL.

Side point, but prediction post will be up around noon Eastern tomorrow.

Why is it that poor soccer refereeing is so much harder to stomach than bad reffing in other sports?

The Russian ref doing the Olympiakos-Malmo game had the British announcers calling for his permanent banning from any games of consequence. He was so monumentally one-sided against Olympiakos that I seriously wonder if money exchanged hands. Or if UEFA badly needs Atletico and Juventus to pass through at Olympiakos's expense.

Early in the game, he called offsides on an onsides spectacular goal that the sideline ref never raised his flag for. Never saw that one before.

Then a clear stonewall takedown in the penalty box resulted in a yellow card for diving on the Olympiakos player. The announcers were astounded.

The same Malmo player went cleats up three times on Olympiakos players who were writhing in agony. Two of the replays showed the cleats connecting with the non-protected back part of the leg near the achilles. The announcers thought two of the slides were worthy of red cards, but the ref told the Olympiakos player to get up.

To make matters worse, the two Spaniards in the back for Olympiakos had a horrendous miscommunication as a pass back from the CB Botia in the box bounced off the goalie Roberto and at the feet of a Malmo player who stuck it into an open net.

It should have been a 2-1 victory for Olympiakos but ended in a 2-0 loss.

It's so hard to watch incompetent soccer refereeing.

Alright gents, I typed this all up while my Calculus class was doing a particularly difficult test today due to their bragging about how good they are, so with their panicked heads staring down at their desks praying to whatever god in whatever stage of life development that they hold dear, I am free to give you all the prediction post earlier than normal!

Kronke KILLED it this past week, going 8-2 with TWO perfect picks and only one match (his beloved Merseyside Derby) not giving him any points which shoots him back into the lead with a full 4.5 points on the rest of the league. Let's hope he takes a lead from the Reds and drops a pitiful week on us all. Speaking of pitiful weeks, there really wasn't one, as the lowest score for the week (Purp's 7.5) is higher than the average score of the league as a whole for this season. Nice bounce back weekend from the numerical disaster we all had on Match Day 5. On week two of it's implementation, the SMOTW seemed much more difficult to read, as not one person even predicted the correct result. I have removed aTXTiger from the group until he shows a renewed commitment to actually making selections, as he has taken a hint from his Spurs and apparently drifted into a coma. Now onto the standings:

Through Match Day 6:
Kronke: 43
CalallenStang: 38.5 (21 correct results)
PurpleReigns2012: 38.5 (15 correct results)
Tigerfan21: 36
Bearcatman: 35 (18 correct results)
Bearcatfan1211: 35 (14 correct results)
Dowdy Pirate: 34.5
Chiefsfan: 31
Meatwad: 29.5

This week's matchups could be the toughest to call so far this season...good luck to all:

Last time I checked, he hadn't logged in for a couple weeks. I PM'ed him, and never got a response.

I hope he's okay.

Same here...I PM'ed him after he missed his picks the last two weeks and haven't heard anything. Wonder if there are any Memphis fans who know him personally to see if he's alright.

He posted on 9/30/14 on the Memphis board
