"(Johnson) is a major, major, major blow," Dykes said. "You're talking about a kid that started every game ... and was the primary target of every scouting report for Vanderbilt with every opponent — and was going to be next year. It's hard to game plan and scheme for a 6-foot-4, 215-pound point guard that was making plays and getting to the box."

Does he have to sit?

Nothing is set in stone, but the NCAA usually lets them play right away if they sit an entire year.

Good player, true PG

A bigger guard than what we've had

I had the pleasure of coaching against him for 3 years.

He'd bump Pookie down the line, I'm sure.

A relative of his says he's coming

So far Pastner has had decent luck with guys who have had trouble in the past (Dixon and GJ come to mind). I say roll the dice with this guy - he's worth the shot and we could certainly use someone who has proven his ability at the high D1 level.

Kedren is exactly what we need on this team. The ceiling for this upcoming season just got raised significantly if this transfer happens.

He didn't have great shooting or assist numbers. If Pookie can play, Johnson also would probably be our best option at the 2.

I personally believe that they can coexist, but I think Pookie (reasonable or not) has his eyes on the starting role at PG. If we bring in Johnson late, I wouldn't be shocked if Pookie decides to transfer. That entirely depends if Johnson can play from the 2 or not.

Johnson is the better PG and I'd love Pookie to stick around and take the reigns in a year or so, but I've just got a suspicion.

He's never played the 2 that I know of in life, has a REALLY good feel for the game.

I think you would have to put the ball in his hands.

I'm all for taking the kid, we can use the help, but damn I worry about the chemistry this year. We are gonna have 10 to 12 guys who all expect to get meaningful minutes this year.

Pookie is a scorer....he could play a combo guard role with Johnson in addition to splitting time at the point.

Pookie is a 1. Just think back to what happened when he thought he was going to get a bit of competition at the 1 from Magee, he almost transferred.

I'm not trying to be gloomy and say that this is what is most likely going to happen, just sort of thinking out loud.

The guy is a PG. No way would he be the best option at the two guard. Great get by Josh. If any player doesn't like the competition, too bad for them.

Great to hear. His numbers improved from his freshman to sophomore season, which is normal; but he made greater than normal improvement. I wasn't keeping an eye out for him so I have no idea how he plays.

Food for thought. He had low assist numbers, but Vandy shot 40.8% as a team. If he is on a team that shoots 45% from the field, he probably averages 2-3 more assists per game. If we get him, we should be a top 25 team.
