TV schedule - nj alum - 07-22-2014 11:46 AM

Still scratching my head that I can watch at least six W&M games on TV, and maybe a seventh (not sure about this ASN stuff) ... who woulda thunk it?

Richmond at W&M on Saturday night under the lights on national NBC network ... very nice.

Last five games of the year on TV ... very nice.

Lot to like about W&M football right now ... just waiting on the QB spot.

Re: TV schedule - mrjoolius - 07-22-2014 11:56 AM

From what I gather, asn is a Sinclair affiliate. Games will be shown on the CW or another Sinclair property. It may take some hunting.

RE: TV schedule - wanm65 - 07-22-2014 02:09 PM

As I read the announcement when the game is televised it will not be shown on the Tribe Athletics streaming site.

Can anybody confirm?

RE: TV schedule - BigTribe - 07-22-2014 03:44 PM

Tribe Club today sent out announcement of round trip buses to Va Tech, Hampton, and JMU games.

For sure. Very anxious (even nervous) about the QB position. So very, very close to a great year last year, and the pieces all there yet again. Please let the QB gods favor us this year........we seemed to be on the "ignore" list for the last few.

This is what I gather regarding Sinclair affiliate broadcasters.
http://www.sbgi.net/business/television.shtml

Here are a couple affiliates in cities with high W&M alumni populations.

Washington DC
DCW50 - CW
WDCA - MyTV

Richmond, VA
WRLH - FOX

Norfolk, VA
WTVZ - MyTV

Baltimore, MD
WNUV - CW
WUTB - MyTV
WBFF - FOX

Also saw word that Sinclair bought up a bunch of ABC affiliates. Specifically WJLA 7 (along with NewsChannel 8) in Washington. http://www.sbgi.net/site_mgr/temp/Allbritton%202_1fhrbvkt.shtml No idea if this factors into their new sports network plans. ABC often broadcasts ESPN games since Disney owns both. That said, I can't see this ASN trumping ESPN for college football/basketball broadcasts.

Nothing's listed on their site about an affiliate in DC/Nova.

I saw that. I assume, maybe wrongly, that the DC based CW or MyTV will be carrying the ASN. They are not going to leave a major market uncovered by their product.

That's my hope/assumption too. Let's hope it proves accurate. That one game they carry looks to be a good one.

I'm curious how many basketball games get picked up by the ASN. Tribe should be a preseason team in the upper half of the conference as well as sporting the must-see player in the conference. I'd be surprised if we didn't get close to the most possible.

RE: TV schedule - nogretheogre - 07-26-2014 02:58 PM

I wonder if the new ASN will have to change the name for copyright reasons?

RE: TV schedule - 62Indian - 07-26-2014 05:30 PM

What is the conflict that you see?

RE: TV schedule - nogretheogre - 07-27-2014 10:13 AM

Another large network abbreviated ASN that shows sports. That network is base in asia, but shows a lot of american sports if you look at their website.

All Sports Network -existing
American Sports Network - new

It is really just the abbreviation, but that is the primary way that people refer to networks...so it might be a problem.

I thought you were comparing with CSN [College Sports Network]. my mistake.

RE: TV schedule - hktribefan - 08-19-2014 11:04 AM

I was browsing over on the ODU boards and someone over there had done some poking around with the new ASN deal, from what he was saying it sounds like ASN will stream games they have rights to online. Not sure if this will only be available in areas where there is not an ASN station or everywhere, but could be a good option for the JMU game. I haven't been able to get a definitive answer on if the JMU game will be broadcast in the DC area; ASN does not list a station in the DC area on their website, so I don't know if it will be on normal TV.

RE: TV schedule - hktribefan - 08-20-2014 02:21 PM

It also looks like Hampton will have a video feed of their game. Don't know if it will cost anything, nor what the quality of it is. BUT at least a video feed is available.

RE: TV schedule - Tribe4SF - 08-20-2014 02:41 PM

Sinclair has WJLA in the D.C. area. You can check cable channel listings to see if that's included in your home package. In the Tidewater area it will be on Channel 2 on Cox Cable.

I think someone said WJLA is an ABC station, and any games on ABC would preempt whatever is scheduled for the ASN. From what I saw over on the ODU board, any ASN game not on TV will at least be online. Something is better than nothing.

ABC & ESPN are both owned by Disney. I cannot imagine they would preempt their ESPN games for ASN games. No complaints from me if it did though.

RE: TV schedule - zablenoise - 08-20-2014 04:09 PM

I've heard that the games may be broadcast on the "sub channels" of Sinclair affiliates. But I don't think you can get those without an antenna.
