Paul Heyman and Plan C - ericsrevenge76 - 07-21-2014 12:08 PM

Looks like its Cena/Lesner at Summer Slam since Cena won last night.

The ironic thing is it likely really is a plan c with Punk and Bryan out of the picture. A Punk/Lesner rematch would have been a better draw imo. A more personal feud between Orton and Reigns would be better as well.

I think they dropped the Cena/Bray Wyatt feud too early. It should have run well through the summer and into the fall. They just seem to be tayor made for each other and get a much better crowd response. Its a very colorful matchup and storyline, with the evil cult leader Wyatt slowly taking down down the hero of the day.

They are trying to have the same exact feud and storyline with Chris Jericho, but it works even better with Cena.

If they keep having Wyatt lose key matches, they will unintentionally kill his character. 'm not sure what they're doing.

Glad to see them give a push to these new up and comers like Cena, Miz and Jericho. I was getting tired of the same old same old.

Wyatt's schtick is worse than it was when he was 'Husky Harris' with Nexus...and about as believable.

WOW

You are in an extreme minority there.

Most wrestling fans agree on Bray being the most colorful new character the WWE has created in several years.

He didn't just hit a HR with the Wyatt character, he hit a grand slam.

Sorry... I just don't buy the character. We're supposed to believe that a relative newcomer who hasn't really paid his dues is going to take out a decorated veteran like Cena.
You need someone with the credibility like a Orton or Lesnar or CM Punk for that storyline.
Ultimately what makes Cena boring is his unwillingness to be anything but a face.
Some of WWE's greatest performers excelled with a antihero profile like The Rock, and Austin.

That's cool. You personally may not.

I was just making the point that its the total opposite for a majority of the fans.

Bray Wyatt had a monster break out year and is one of the hottest and most interesting characters they have had in several years.

RE: Paul Heyman and Plan C - EarthBoundMisfit - 07-22-2014 08:25 AM

I dunno.....Wyatt has always had quite a few fans chant "Husky Harris" at his events....matches be what may.
The WWE must assume that fans have short term memories and that we won't notice their repackaging schemes (like Lord Tensai...who had to endure "ALLLLLLLLBERT" chants... or Broadus Clay who went from a promising persona to thinking he was a dancing dinosaur.)

(What I did not know..but found out recently is that 'Wyatt' is the son of wrestling legend Mike Rotunda and is the brother of Taylor Michael Rotunda aka Bo Dallas.)

Of all the new promising talent in the WWE right now..I think I like Dean Ambrose the best.
Roman Reigns' character is good..but you have to wonder if his push is because he is really a good wrestler...or because he is related to one of the most promising wrestling families ever? (I mean being related to Umaga, Rikishi, The Rock, etc etc can't really HURT your wrestling resume can it?)
I don't buy that "Seth Rollins was the Shield's Leader". Just 1 year ago..everyone thought it was Dean...who has had the best mic skills of all three.

As you say to each his own...sometimes WWE's Creative team isn't so creative.
When you can pick out which matches are going to end in DQ somehow...or who will win or lose (OCCASIONALLY they will try and throw you a curveball like last night's Ziggler win over The Miz)...but for the most part you know how it will go down.
Like Cena vs Lesnar.
Lesnar will get to kick Cena's butt badly this time...cuz Cena won last time.
Its just how it goes.

I don't watch the WWE , but I am a huge old school wrestling fan. It is my understanding that Bray Wyatt is the son of Mike Rotunda . Which makes him Blackjack Mulligan's grandson and Barry Windham's nephew . Instead of promoting him as a third generation wrestler , WWE creative developed the Bray Wyatt character ? Does that really make sense ?

RE: Paul Heyman and Plan C - gotigers1 - 07-22-2014 08:53 AM

Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman and my client Brock Lesnar bleached his eyebrows last night

oh lord yes

Promoting him as another Mulligan or as IRS's son would get him absolutely no were. Most of the fans don't give a crap who their dad was, or even know for that matter.. If you are boring, you are boring and if you bring excitement and interest then you bring excitement and interest.

Look, everyone has their fav's and so forth, but the overwhelming success of the Wyatt family is undeniable.

I guess . Like I said I don't watch the WWE . To me Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda are a big deal , for their work in the NWA. I never seen a Bray Wyatt match and never will . The only current wrestling promotions I watch are Ring of Honor and New Japan . I always found the WWE to be unwatchable. Can't see how it ever drew a dime.

I caught the last ten minutes of that last night while waiting for Rush to start. I don't follow the story lines anymore, is there any way for The Undertaker to make his way back into that match?

RE: Paul Heyman and Plan C - gotigers1 - 07-22-2014 02:05 PM

Undertaker could barely pull off any moves at Wrestlemania. I'll be very surprised if he ever fights again

RE: Paul Heyman and Plan C - ncrdbl1 - 07-22-2014 02:32 PM

Bray is the WWE concept of Duck Dynasty same as Zeb is their idea of the Tea Party.

All the more reason for a comeback. The Hulk retired like five times.

Maybe he should have been Ian R. Shyster?

The only chance a second or third generation guy has in the business is to completely create a new character and to give no clue who they actually are. Just because their dad was one of the greats doesn't mean a thing. For example....

Ted Dibiase, Jr - Came in under his own name, made it very well known who his dad was. Problem was, he has about a tenth of his dad's charisma/ability. Never got higher than low midcard, outside of his time with Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes.

Joe Hennig/Curtis Axel - Same story. Made it well known he was the son of Mr. Perfect. Problem was, he ain't Mr. Perfect. Nobody cares. Not even Paul Heyman could bring this guy out of midcard purgatory.

David Hart Smith - Should have been given more of a chance in WWE, but made it known he was the British Bulldog's son. Had a decent run with Tyson Kidd, but is now making a good living for himself in Japan.

If a guy comes in expecting to rely on his father's name to get himself over, he is dead in the water. Dustin Rhodes never would have gotten past the midcard as The Natural, but once he created Goldust, he became a star. Same story for Cody Rhodes. He can go as far as he wants as Stardust.

The Uso's are an exception because they're GOOD at what they do. Everyone knows they're Rikishi's boys, but they're capable of tearing down the house every single night. They're one of the rare ones who put on better matches than their dad did.

I could go on and on, but you get my point. Both Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas are doing great as their own unique characters, instead of relying on the names of their dad, uncle, and grandfather.

The worst thing about Joe Hennig was, when he debuted on the main roster, they acknowledged he was the son of the legendary Mr. Perfect and grandson of Larry "The Axe" Hennig. And his name was Michael McGillicutty.

And there's that too.

Another general rule of thumb when it comes to this business: when you're picking a name, try to find one that can actually be chanted if you do happen to get yourself over. Joe Hennig was DOA as soon as he allowed himself to take on that name.
