UTEP Basketball's Vince Hunter participating in the Lebron James Skills Camp - stanman505 - 07-10-2014 08:12 AM

Vince is one of only 30 current/returning college players invited to the camp and one of only 7 sophomores. The camp is a who's who of college basketball.

He's getting a ton of attention on twitter. Maybe too much.

This was a tweet from Jeff Goodman from ESPN about Vince Hunter at the Lebron Skills Camp.

My first in-person look at UTEP's long and talented forward Vincent Hunter. Extremely intriguing -- and will be guy NBA folks monitor.

As long as their monitoring takes them three more years to finish, I'll be fine.

I don't see him staying all three years at this point. I do think he will be at UTEP for the next two years.

Slightly off topic but I didn't want to create a new thread. Marqywell Jackson tweeted that he is leaving the team and going home. Also, Anthony January will be playing for NMSUx this season. Talk about a one two punch.

At least the Vince Hunter news is good.

Any idea why?

Offseasons just haven't been kind to UTEP lately.

There are two things out there.
1. He is homesick and his girlfriend wants him to stay closer to home
2. He didn't qualify academically and he/family don't have the money to pay his own way for a year.

He did state that he was going to home to talk over the decision with his family and his high school coach. Nothing is final but right now I think there is only about a 40% chance of him coming back.

I'd be okay with that.

Hunter is actually getting a little run from the four letter network:

Jay Bilas:

Vincent Hunter, UTEP Miners

Hunter did a good job playing to his strengths at the camp and not allowing himself to be pushed around. He stood his ground in the post and on the glass. As an undersized power forward, Hunter will need to show he can step away and stretch the floor.

Top 10 2015 NBA Draft Sleepers:

6. Vincent Hunter, 6-8, 200, SF, Soph., UTEP Miners

Chad Ford's Rank: NR

I got my first in-person look at the long and versatile Detroit native this past week at the LeBron James Skills Academy in Las Vegas, and he didn't disappoint. He's 6-8, can handle the ball and also can pass and defend. The question for me is whether he'll improve his perimeter shot enough.

I don't really agree with Bilas saying he's an undersized PF. Whatever he does at the next level, he's going to a be wing at college. Agree on the shot. If he can start consistently hitting the 15-18 foot jumper, he's going to be scary good.
