World Cup News - Tiger1983 - 07-03-2014 07:14 AM

The 2015 Cricket World Cup will be held in New Zealand and Australia in about 225 days. The USA is not one of the teams in the Cup. It is unfortunate because Cricket is second only to soccer in world popularity with about 2 - 3 billion fans and it is only a matter of time before it makes inroads in America.

Cricket fixing is funny. The bat has a mind of its own.

Unless all the kids start playing cricket like they did with soccer, it's never making in roads here. We also have baseball which will continue to draw the talented cricket prospects away from cricket.

I've got video of a bike tour my wife and I did in the highlands of Jamaica, where the tour guide took us to a school where the kids were practicing cricket after school. The field was on a rocky slope with a lot of trees in the way, but the kids didn't care. It reminded me of playing neighborhood softball when I was a kid, and the big bush across the street was second base, and the tree on the left was third.

Doesn't one game take like 2 days to finish?

Unlike soccer though, it's not really a global sport, it's centered around a few countries, specifically India and Australia.

Jamaica. It's huge there. Probably big anywhere the Brits once ruled, although Cricket tended to be the sport of the upper classes.

Twenty20 is fun to watch. Regular test cricket is just too long.

I really like the idea of uniting the world through sports, though.

Cricket...polo...curling.....whatever. Just not fox hunting...let's let that one go.

About a 5 acre field north of Seattle is for Crickett only. I had occasion to drive by there several times and having no understanding of the rules, I thought I would watch for a while and figure it out. Right. After standing there at the fence for about an hour the same hitter, or batter or whatever he's called, was still swinging. Since you can stay in the batters box that long it just might appeal to a lot of kids. It did surprise me how many spectators there were.

cricket is played here locally, if anyone wants to watch

I think it's batsman.

George Bernard Shaw once said,
“Cricket is a game played by 22 fools and watched by 22,000 fools”

Adolf Hitler banned cricket in Germany, he said, ‘By the time this stupid game is over, I could have conquered three countries.’

Not sure what we take longer; playing the game or learning the rules and terms.

These evaluations sound like they've come from the wicket wish of the northeast.
