Bearcat Football Out of Conference Scheduling - A look ahead - Bearcat2012 - 06-24-2014 01:27 PM

As we patiently wait for the 2014 Football season to begin lets take a look into all scheduled out of conference games in the future and how the years are stacking up.
Whats good , whats bad, what do we need ?

2014
09/12 - Toledo
09/20 - Miami (OH)
09/27 - at Ohio State
10/11 - at Miami (FL)

Solid Toeldo team , 2 P5 road games and oh yeah , Miami Ohio

2015
09/05 - Alabama A&M
09/19 - at Miami (OH)
10/03 - Miami (FL)
10/24 - at BYU

Unless you are living under a rock you know they are trying to upgrade the Nippert opener. Something will get done ,possibly just removing the A&M from that line. Return game at Nippert for the 'canes. Road trip to Utah and oh yeah Miami Ohio

2016
09/10 - at Purdue
11/12 - BYU
TBA - Miami (OH)

BYU comes to Nippert. A return game at Big ten Purdue and oh yeah, Miami (oh). 1 open date.

2017
09/09 - at Michigan
09/16 - at Miami (OH)

A trip to the Big House! and oh yeah , Miami . 2 open dates both seemingly home . Maybe we can move Alabama A&M's 2015 game here

2018
09/15 - Miami (OH)
09/22 - Ohio

Of all the years out there this is the one that needs beefing up. 2 open games looks like we need at least one on the road. Its nice to play our neighbors the Bobcats and Oh yeah , theres Miami Of Oxford Ohio.

2019
09/07 - at Ohio State
09/14 - at Miami (OH)
09/21 - at Boise State

home game please. If not bought out 2 tough ones on the road , and oh yeah. Miami . (should we keep playing this every year)

2020
09/12 - at Nebraska
09/19 - Miami (OH)
09/26 - Boise State
TBA - at Ohio

oddly enough booked and filled at this time

2021-2024 - Nothing scheduled

2025
09/13 - Nebraska

I may be using a cane by then but cant wait til Nebraska visits Nippert. Chance this game actually happens 15% .

Discuss, please.

Aside from Miami (OH), the OOC schedule is pretty good, imho.

BYU and BSU are probably the best OOC G5 schools we can get, so I would stay away from others. I'd also like to stop playing FCS schools - they may be an easy win, but they lower attendance and ruin SOS.

I would like to see UC start playing Big12 schools and show them we can compete and draw the fans - certainly wouldn't hurt come next round of realignment.

Is 2020 the last year for our contract with the Redskins? If we win every game against them between now and then, it's time to rethink it. Maybe switch to every other year.

It's the last remaining trophy game. I think it's going to be really hard (assuming everything stays as it is right now) to kill that series no matter how badly some on the UC side want to.

And the away game is really close. Although I would like to see it 2 games in Cincy 1 game in Oxford. By the way what is the history of how we had them coming to Cincy with no return game for years?

Ville and Pitt were close away games, don't have too many of those these days.

Before everyone looks down their collective noses at Miami, remember UC would have to win the next 7 games (in addition to the 8 in a row they have already won) just to get the series back to .500. That is just how far (15 games) that Miami was ahead in this series. Miami leads, 59-52-7

They are down on their luck right now, but they won't always be.

for my own curiousity I checked to see when Miami gained their advantage record wise over us:

UC Record vs Miami by years
pre 1900 : 5-5-1
1900-1919 : 5-7-3
1920-1939 : 8-10-2
1940-1959 : 10-8
1960-1979: 4-16
1980-1999: 10-9-1
2000-2013 : 10-4

Clearly MU dominated us in the 60's and 70's . We conversely are dominating them current day. Every other 20 year period nothing swings wildly to one side.

I just think with the current college football climate it will be harder for Miami to get to UC's level again and win regularly . But who knows what 40 years from now holds down the road.

... Probably robot players. 07-coffee3

You are assuming that we will continue our growth.

With our conference, we could very easily fall back closer to their level if being in the AAC affects recruiting. And it will!

So far recruiting has not been impacted in a negative manner. Our best classes in the Big East were in the 50's. We have much more advantageous TV exposure than the MAC (especially Miami), the environment at Nippert is light years better than Oxford, and Nippert is much better than Yaeger.

I agree ctip. I expect their new coach to turn things around. Might take him a few years. However, once he receives success he would be out the door.

As much as I always despised their pompous attitude towards UC, I enjoy the series and that we have won 8 in a row. Let's get the next 7!

I really like playing the big10. O$U, Purdue, Michigan, then O$U again. No angle as far as trying to get an invite, just hopefully beat dey arse. They are geographically closer than most schools, plenty of local familiarity, and the pleasure of beating that conference. I'd like to play one every year.

RE: Bearcat Football Out of Conference Scheduling - A look ahead - Ring of Black - 06-27-2014 08:40 AM

I guess I'm the minority that would prefer the Miami game to playing an FCS school. Games against FCS schools have proven a complete waste of time. If we beat them handily, it's like "oh - big deal." But, when games get a little bit tight, like Delaware State, the near disaster with Western Carolina, and even the poor first half vs. Indiana State, people groan over it.

Although I would prefer to have all games at Nippert, and derive some sort of amicable revenue split where the "home" teams alternate, it is at least, a very short road trip. Let's just outnumber them in their own house, like we always do, and stop complaining about it.

Playing Miami in Oxford just reaffirms the place the P5 wants to put UC.
"Playing teams/games that are not relevant"
Why do you think the P5 are working towards playing each other? Because it would lock out and make the G5 schools irrelevant. Just look at the difficult time UC has in scheduling regional games. UC must break that scheduling wall or things are going to go down quickly. It's happing as we speak now Louisville won't even play UC.
