WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! Disclaimer: I f you hate realignment threads, expansion threads, or having fun please feel free not to participate!

Kruciff's thread got me thinking.

For fun design your own 12 team dream conference. The catch is you MUST pick 6 P5 schools and 6 G5 schools top make up the 12.

My Picks
ECU
UCF
Navy
So Miss
Memphis
Cincy
Notre Dame
Louisville
Clemson
Va. Tech
Duke
Georgia

Bearcats for the win

RE: Pie in the Sky off-season fun thread - ncbeta - 06-19-2014 09:22 PM

I was going to make one up but I think you've got a pretty good thing going. I'd iay swap Duke with flawda or FSU. UCF needs a buddy down there. Memphis has Cincy and UL. We've got Navy, UCF, VT and USM. Everyone else has some nice partners in this league except ND, and who really cares what they want?! They'd be stuck with us 03-wink

RE: Pie in the Sky off-season fun thread - goodknightfl - 06-19-2014 09:45 PM

SMU, TCU, Baylor, Houston, Tulane, LSU, Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas, Tulsa, Louisville, Kentucky. Fun locations, good footbal and BBall. Regional enough for me. I'd rather fly than drive. 5 privates, 7 big schools, good mix. And Cincinnati, if we get one more.

If I was guaranteed to fly to Dallas for every away game at SMU game I'd probably swap y'all in. If all of the fans could fly to all of the away games my conference would be crazy...

I left Miami off without even thinking about it 03-banghead I know a lot of UC fans don't really care about the Miami series anymore, but it is also clear, based on recent Victory Bell attendance from Yeagher, that Miami fans don't care much either.

Pretty sad the series seems to be going to hell, but I appreciate your thinking about it anyway 04-bow

RE: Pie in the Sky off-season fun thread - NYCTUFan - 06-20-2014 08:27 AM

In no particular order.

1. Army (FB Only) / Georgetown (BBall)
2. Navy (FB Only) / VCU (BBall)
3. UMass
4. UConn
5. Temple
6. Cincinnati
7. Rutgers
8. Boston College
9. Penn State
10. Pitt
11. Maryland
12. Syracuse

A conference that has pretty good academics, can build some solid regional football rivalries, and consistently send 5 or more teams to the NCAA Tournament.

Football championship game to be held at Yankee Stadium, basketball tournament at MSG.

Miami will bounce back soon enough. I like our new coach so far, at least in what he says and the recruits so far. The Miami-UC rivalry regardless if P5 or G5 is one of the oldest around!

It'll be interesting to see if the talent gap between UC and Miami will even out anytime soon. UC's affiliation with what was a BCS conference was a huge boost to UC's recruiting advantage and Miami couldn't keep up. Now that UC is in the AAC (arguably still the better conference than MAC), it will be interesting to see how recruits view UC's status as a "big time" football school or what?

RE: Pie in the Sky off-season fun thread - ECUPirated - 06-20-2014 09:20 AM

16 teams

Regional
Traveling distance for driving to away games / better-bigger crowds
Intrastate matchups = rivalries as well as state rivalry games like "backyard brawls".

East Carolina / NC State
Old Dominion / Virginia Tech
Marshall / West Virginia
Memphis / Middle Tenn St
Clemson / South Carolina
Georgia / Georgia Tech
Cincinnati / Louisville
Navy / Temple

If we went to 18 schools........

Add UCF / USF and change Middle Tennessee State to Tennessee to keep an even number of power schools to non-power schools.

Divisions would be split as such

East Carolina
Virginia Tech
Georgia
Marshall
Clemson
Mid Tenn State (Tennessee)
Louisville
Temple
(UCF)
-------------------------------
West Virginia
Georgia Tech
Old Dominion
Memphis
South Carolina
NC State
Cincinnati
Navy
(USF)
