Another reason Central sucks - Charm City Bronco - 06-15-2014 08:21 AM

Though it sounds like more whining and victimization from spoiled babies who can't take personal responsibility for their own decisions. Could have attended GVSU, Hillsdale, Hope or Calvin if they really wanted to not be persecuted *snicker*.

EDIT: Whoops! The reporters screwed the story up. He goes to MSU, not Central. Kind of an important fact to nail down there.

Yep, that did happen at MSU. She probably graduated from the CMU school of journalism. Unfortunately, most of those grads are destined to work at Starbucks than finding work in the news biz.

Can't fault her, she probably wanted to get her old alma mater back in the news...........longing for the days when 7 CMU FBers starred in the murder trials on Court TV.

Ouch.

That was the clearest indication that nobody gives a rats azz about the MAC. If Johnny Manzel sp gave a girl a hicky it would be national news and all over TMZ.

But when seven players kick a man to death in the MAC it's a non story. Moreover when the coach said that "not snitching on each other was a part of the culture," no one said a word about it. If he said the same thing at ND he'd be gone quicker than you can say Paula Dean...........on the other hand if he makes the video crew operate on 50 foot cranes in 40 mile an hour winds and one of them gets killed...........a simple, "oooops" is good enough. He's the teflon coach. 03-weeping

At least his reputation kept him from getting hired at MSU. His antics at CMU bit him then.

That episode really bothered me. Ironically enough, a day earlier jim Tressel ordered his video crew down from the towers during the same Midwest wind storm, perhaps averting a similar tragedy. In the end Tressel gets fired for lying about tattoos, meanwhile Kelly is connected to extreme negligence leading to a death.......and is revered in ND nation. I'm often confused about priorities in America.

I agree. BK is a disgrace and the balllickers just love him. Speaking of ND ball lickers, I saw an entire family wearing the exact same ND shirt today in Arlington. I wanted to ask one, "which one of you is the alum?"

Also, this says a lot about the Detroit News: the guy in the first paragraph of the story said the event happened at MSU and not CMU, right in the freaking comments. Has the News updated the story to reflect this? Of course not.

My connections at ND, and other sources, tell me that the parents have forgiven ND. I'm pretty sure they're better people than me.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/30/sports/ncaafootball/declan-sullivans-family-responds-to-death-by-not-pointing-fingers.html?_r=0

Sullivan was largely forgotten in this coverage, his story the detritus of a tragedy teased through the modern news grind. The reaction was playing out exactly as expected until the Sullivans made their feelings known in public.

They did not have the moral outrage that others mustered for them. They acknowledged that Notre Dame had made mistakes, that his death could and should have been prevented. Yet the Sullivans cheered, for Notre Dame and for its football team, even louder than before. Their daughter, Gwyneth or Wyn, as she is called, continued to attend college there. Their other son, Macartan, known as Mac, recently submitted his application.

The family will attend the national championship game in Miami, and it will do so in Sullivan’s memory, for the same reasons the family created a memorial fund and partnered with a local charity: because this is how the Sullivans choose to grieve, how they want him to be remembered.

That's healthier. Like you said, they're good people, I'd like to think that I could forgive that way.

By cheering for the colossal, untopabble football juggernaut that sent their son to a violent death? I get it if they don't want to hate the school and the program, but pulling their heads out of their a55es would be a good start. This just sounds like denial.

RE: Another reason Central sucks - DesertBronco - 06-18-2014 02:48 PM

What's healthier? Bitterness or denial? I'm sure you'd be a good case study. Please answer truthfully. 03-lmfao

I don't know, since I'm in neither.

I don't know if u have children, but that'd be damn hard for me to forgive. I find their response odd, but honorable.

It's beyond strange. I can understand not embarking on a lengthy and expensive legal battle that could ruin finances. I can see the forgiveness approach, but drinking even larger amounts of ND and ND football koolaid after the school's gross negligence lead to your son's death is just super strange.

ND is a borderline cult. Minus the black Nikes, castration and cyanide in pudding.

I'm thinking they saw their son as committed to ND, more than that, an essential part of the staff by providing high quality video, and like a soldier or a fireman, gave of himself that day by doing the important video even in the bad weather conditions, much the same as a fireman going into a smoke filled home to rescue a child. In that sense, their son died on the field of battle and payed the ultimate price to support his team. To you and I, a misguided view of things. And certainly coaches ultimate responsibility to keep things in perspective by shutting down the video operation.

Cannot underestimate the connection between ND, Catholicism, and the true believers' faith in both (in this case, the deceased young man's family perhaps).
