His arms definitely look much tighter. Good for Dom!

If he loses 20 more we can call him "Average Dom." So stupid I like it -- 03-wink

It is good seeing Dom have the mental discipline to lose weight. I can attest that it is not easy. I think Dom will be among our inexperienced players who will benefit from the Canadian trip.

I agree. Dom had a lot of exposure to high level competition & teammates before he arrived here, so I think he will begin to develop his high level skills & that will benefit us greatly.

Not to sound too preachy --- but weight loss and maintenance isn't as difficult as some might think *if* you change the core of your diet to fruits, cold water fish, and vegetables (nutriants, fiber, and good fats) and you learn the difference between feeling hungry and having cravings for crap loaded with sugar, salt, and/or bad fats.

So, in summation it takes mental discipline...

The part that I find most encouraging is that mental discipline in one area easily translate to another, it would be terrific to see him channel his energy into basketball instead of acting out on the bench. He could, literally, be a difference maker.

Nobody feels like doing that.

IMO, dieting is about knowing your body and having the discipline do what it takes to acheive the weight goals you set for yourself. It's also about genetics and making sure the goals you set are realistic and attainable.

I agree.

Can be different for athletes at that level because they burn so much energy.

My doctor told me to avoid carbs; sugar, white bread, flour, potatoes, anything fried and to watch portions. I dropped about 30 lbs in four months and I wasn't really working out other than riding my bike. When eating out my wife and I would share a meal and I laid off bread of any kind, even though I might sneak a few bites at Macaroni Grill, can't resist that.

Over the past three years I have let about 15 of that sneak back up and I'm on the same diet and working out more. Getting older and metabolism changing. Guess I need to turn it up a notch.

The wife eats the same thing I do and never gains a pound.

And Pastner's tough discipline seems to be paying off. We are damned lucky to not only have a guy who can find talent, but also has the guts to try and mold them into a better player, when that is possible.

But wasn't Dom training at his home in Texas when he lost all this weight?

Good job By Dom, by the way. He was really explosive while he was at 310, I can't wait to see him at 290.

I remember a follow up dunk made by Dom that literally made my jaw drop.

That's the one I was thinking about, too.

Yep. We can only imagine what he can do once he is in real shape.

And, as the other poster alludes to, whatever disciplinary measures Pastner took really seemed to sink in for Dom to do this when nobody was looking over his shoulder. The measures coach took must have been dead on correct. Kudos to the poster for recognizing this.
