Post your highest rankings in school history - BullsFanInTX - 05-27-2014 03:25 PM

Trivia for off season banter. Post your highest rankings ever achieved in football. Not year end ranking but highest at any time. I picked USF's top 12 rankings. Several others in the 13-20 range in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

USF (AP Poll):

#2 - Oct 14, 2007 (with 11 first place votes)
#5 - Oct 7, 2007
#6 - Sep 30, 2007
#10 - Sep 28, 2008
#11 - Oct 21, 2007
#12 - Sep 14, 2008

Who knows and how would you research in season polls going back 50,60,70 or more years ago?

Final ranking is the only thing that matters and is easily verifiable.

That said #4 is our high point in the final polls. 16 times in the top 25 final poll and 5 times inside the top 10.

Tulane in 1998 finished the football season ranked Number 7 in the nation with a 12-0 record. Tulane University President Scott Cowen after made a major attack against the BCS for not including Tulane in their mix that year. His attack included testimony before Congress and the leadership of the non BCS universities resulting in some changes to the BCS system.

03-lmfao I'm sorry....

Why are we not talking about Final Rankings?

If you drop out of the Top 25, there was probably a reason. 03-nutkick

It's just useless trivia to see how high each school got. Nothing more. Something to pass time in off season.

Someone should rank the membership by highest final finish. I would if I knew where to go to find it.

SMU #1
Navy #2
Houston #4
Tulane #7
Cincy #8
ECU #9
UCF #10
USF #23

I remember. I was back in Tampa then, and the Bucs brought in Shaun King the year after.

All AP polls are posted online, even 50 yrs ago. Your schools football records site also has these figures.

Oh I know (AP) but that is just too time consuming to go through 12,13, or whatever polls each year to see where we peaked in season. I would have to go through approx 800 polls to figure that out and schools playing earlier would have much more..... a waste of time when the final polls are all that matter.

Our school only lists final rankings in our info.

That is a typo - it was 1935 not 1915.

If y'all want to look up your individual school, there's a site that archives all AP polls, and you can sort by school, where it lists every season in which your team was ranked:

http://collegepollarchive.com/football/ap/teams/index.cfm#.U4UG5BBCyhl

Tulane's weeks in the AP Poll's top 10:
1936 - #9 (1 wk), #10 (1 wk)
1939 - #4 (1 wk), #5 (4 wks - final), #6 (1 wk), #7 (1 wk), #8 (1 wk), #9 (1 wk)
1941 - #10 (1 wk)
1949 - #4 (2 wks), #10 (1 wk)
1998 - #7 (1 wk - final), #9 (1 wk), #10 (1 wk)

Tulane has ranked in the AP 59 weeks total, and in 7 final AP polls.

Tulane's highest rankings:
1939 - #4 (1 wk)
1949 - #4 (2 wks)
1939 - #5 (4 wks - final)
1998 - #7 (1 wk - final)

Tulane has ranked in the AP 59 weeks total, and in 7 final AP polls.

Ok that puts our highest in season as #2.

RE: Post your highest rankings in school history - NYCTUFan - 05-27-2014 05:13 PM

Temple in 1936 was as high as 19, as high as 13 in 1941, 19 in 1974 and a final ranking of 17 in 1979. I also believe they finished the 1934 season ranked 15th after losing to Tulane in the Sugar Bowl.

5 seasons they were ranked, twice finished season ranked.

RE: Post your highest rankings in school history - CougarRed - 05-27-2014 05:15 PM

We had a couple of Top 5 finishes. I think we got up to #2 at one point.
