Starting to get excited about Vegas and started booking things.
What's everybody's plans? Where is everyone staying?
Flying out Thursday night and back Sunday. Not sure where I'm staying yet but it'll be somewhere on the strip. Anyone have any suggestions? What's the best way to get to UNLV from the strip? Cab?

I got good rates at the MGM Grand on the strip. I'll be taking a cab to the stadium and back.

I'm going to fly in on Thursday and stay a few extra days with my wife to see the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam and a couple of shows. I'm staying until Wednesday.

All about personal preference really... I personally like center strip more than being at the end, or closer to downtown. I just like the area around Bellagio/Caesar's, etc. Harrah's usually has reasonable rates in that area.
My biggest recommendation (let me get on my soap box) is to pay attention when getting in a cab at the airport and back. Just about everyone going out there has been scammed by these jerks at some point and probably haven't realized it.

The cabbies take you on the long route, which they say is faster, but really it just costs you more. I have had it done to me and my friends multiple times. It is illegal, and if they are caught, they get fined. Basically they have to ask you if it is ok to take the "tunnel" or the "highway" otherwise it is illegal. Both times it happened to me, they took me the long route and didn't ask. So, I didn't pay the full amount. As an example to get to Caesar's normally should be about $15-$17, and the fare was over $30. When I got out, I told him he took me the long route and I was going to call the taxi authority. He played dumb, and so I told him either he can accept $10 for the fare or we'll wait for the authority. He was pissed but accepted it and left. It rubs you the wrong way to start the trip, but still I hate getting ripped off by these jerks.
You can also avoid it by saying right away no tunnel, and mention specific streets (like Svenson, etc). But, I find it amusing to see if they'll take me the long route and then make them accept less. A buddy of mine insisted on calling the authority and forced the guy into a fine. Served him right.

During my last business trip to Vegas the cab driver took us the long way. He even asked if we wanted to take the longer way to see the LV sign and we said no. He took us that way anyways and then offered to take us to a strip club. I would have been mad if I was paying out of my pocket, but since it was a business trip I didn't make a big deal about it. I would say something about it right away and don't even give them the chance.

Back when we played UNLV, we were told the stadium was 1/2 mile, mile etc. We hopped a cab and let me tell you, that stadium is on a parcel that looked like a lunar moon landing spot. If I remember, the ride was a heck of a lot further then a mile. Getting a cab back was hard, especially after a night game. Maybe the landscape has changed, but last time it was desolate.

UNLV is about a couple miles from the strip, but the stadium isn't on the campus. It's like 10 miles away. Get a group of fans together and split the cost of a shuttle. Probably wouldn't be too much and will save a headache for postgame when you're trying to find non-existent taxis.

Getting in on Thursday, leaving earlyish on Sunday. Best deal I found was out of Rockford (1 hour drive for me), but the easiest. Got some non-NIU folks going, will be exciting.

Doubt rates will come down. When I booked on a Monday three weeks ago on SWA, it was $70 more expensive than the rate they quoted on just the prior Friday.

flights are really up there now. I think the way to go to Arkansas is drive. Think its only about 10 hours to Fayettville

Just checked on Vegas.com and a 2 night stay with a flight was $362 per person. This hotel is walking distance to the stadium but had no extras.
I am not sure if this site sneaks in additional fees/charges at the end.

Almost all the casino/hotels charge a resort fee not covered in the base rate room fee. The resort fee could be anywhere from $20 to $50 per night. Please read reviews before booking a hotel if you not familiar with Las Vegas. Near the strip means anywhere from two big blocks to several miles. Central strip is good location for first timers.
Friday and Saturday night the strip will be packed! You be lucky to find a blackjack table under $25 and most craps tables are $25 for pass line bets. Downtown is way cheaper for gaming. Book a car, you can always cancel. Be careful of online hotel specials, sometimes you cannot cancel.

6 of us Flying out on Thurs. 4 of us returning on Monday the other 2 on Sunday. Flights already paid for on Allegiant out of Peoria.
We haven't booked a hotel yet but many years ago downtown was the place to stay & to gamble if you wanted to walk from place to place.
My husband & I used to work out there 3 weeks at a time 3 times a year when he played in a band. So we lived there 9 weeks a year. Been a very long time though.
We will likely rent a car & do all of our own driving. I think we will look at staying downtown. Cheaper gambling & we can walk around more.

Be careful on the Vegas.com deals. A lot of flights leave at like 12:59 AM. May not be a big deal for some, but I'm trying to get my party on Saturday night/Sunday morning not fly home lol.
I booked my flight yesterday. Got Raleigh/Vegas for $406. Not sure I would have done much better at any point.

I always recommend Flamingo, although I havent been there in like 7 yrs. To me, best value usually, best location on strip, right in the middle can go high class or slum it.(Is OSheas still there? Casino Royale for $1.25 Michelob Amber Bocks?) Decent buffett. Nice tropical area in middle/pool. I always told them as high as possible and over the strip when I checked in. Cool to look out at Bellagio fountains, Caesers and down strip at night (or early morning for some of you) Negatives are small sports book and gaming area is below average and the atmosphere blows in the casino. But again, there are so many around you have your pick.
I think about Vegas nearly every day. March Madness used to be it until it got to be "the it thing" got crowded and prices soared. I always loved going there afterLabor Day when there were no more kids up until middle of October. Best weather, crowds usually down, got you pick of sports to bet on.

Prices got out of hand last 10 years. I have no idea where this money comes from....retirement,overseas, drugs, daddy (definitely last 2 at places like Hard Rock) To play a game like craps right, you have to take max odds (or close to it) on come bets, pass line. 25 min people just take less odds or play middle. Casino's love it. You used to be able to find a cheap table here ($10) and there, especially towards to back at a TI, Caeser's or even Bellagio in the day. Bellagio used to even have a couple $5 craps tables til about 10 and you could get grandfathered in. With all the new ones going up, I would guess those would be the lesser places nowadays. I have heard from numerous people these new casinos are empty.
And bets odds, or at least it was and if it is still open: Casino Royale. Used to be 100x odds , $3 minimum about 7 years ago. I was playing one day 3 backed with 50, 100 couple times. The dealers were laughing and one finall said "Always nice to see someone taking advantage of the odds here."
