Windows 8.1 is a steaming pile of crap. - Machiavelli - 05-15-2014 08:27 AM

GTS said this the other day in a thread. It's just not easy to use. Windows should have kept with their basic format. When people are clamoring to go back to your old system you have a problem. The start screen is even bs. When will Microsoft get it's game together and stop trying to be Apple. It's ok. Do what you do, you have a fan base.

My 2 cents.

I will still give it a shot because 8.1 will be the OS on the new computer I just ordered.

In that thread I posted a link to a program that will change the shell to look and act like Windows XP or 7. That's what I did for my kid's computer.

MS is a follower, not a leader. They are pathetic.

And why would you try to dumb down a computer to become a tablet?

Then what is the point. Why not just wipe it out and install Windows 7?

I just bought a new laptop since I had been on XP.

But I got Windows 7 because, well frankly, I don't like new things. I'll let others work out the bugs.

Thanks Mach.

I think Windows 8 manages memory better and it can handle a lot more of it. The program I referred to just make W8 look like W7 and XP, but it's still W8. It makes it easier to use.

I really don't understand the hate. The metro interface is basically just a larger start menu.

Everything else about the operating system is exactly the same.

IMO, they made it even more retard friendly than the older versions of Windows.

RE: Windows 8.1 is a steaming pile of crap. - oklalittledixie - 05-15-2014 08:38 AM

I think it's the apps on the start page that people don't care for, and I can understand that. I don't care for them all that much, but the rest of the system seems to be about the same.

There is no point in having Windows 8 unless you have a touch screen IMO.

My PC won't allow the update to 8.1 but my laptop has it and I have no problems whatsoever. I prefer my laptop for my bigger projects. I love Windows 8. Once you learn it, there's nothing easier besides maybe a MAC if you're a retard.

Also from that screen, you can type whatever you're looking for and it instantly pulls up everything related to that word. That's an awesome feature.

I saw that. That is kinda cool. However, it will be hard to break me of my Google search.

Microsoft has the every other version rule... or so it seems every other is awful.

That being said, where they screwed up was that they tried to push the tablet interface to the PC. They should have kept 2 separate version, 1 for mobile devices and 1 for PCs. Windows 8.1 does allow you to bring back the start button now, or as someone else mentioned you can install an after market product that adds a start menu.

No doubt their idea for "moving forward" was more of a step back than anything.

I'm always gonna Google lol... I just use my home screen to search files on my computer.

I think you're talking about Pokki... I prefer this over XP and 7 but that's just my opinion. Once you learn it, it's a great system.

My understanding is the Windows OS is Ark of the Covenant for Mircosoft. There can be no other rival operating systems. So when tablets took off, MS needed to find a way to merge both versions into one OS, which is what Win 8 was supposed to do. Apparently MS had developed a decent smartphone OS, but was eventually killed because it couldn't be merged with Windows.

Keep in mind that there is a big Linux group on this forum that hate Windows altogether.

Windows DOES have not just a decent smartphone OS, but a great one.

Windows Phone's operating system is fast, smooth, and operates flawlessly on every device. It is also very customizable. The one drawback the Windows Phone OS has is lack of some apps, but most of the big ones are on there. I don't really use apps much though, so I don't care. I just like to have a phone that can take great pictures (and Nokia's are unrivaled there), use the internet, text, and make calls.

It doesn't have much of a market share in the U.S. (4-5%) because hating Microsoft is the cool thing to do here, but it is doing very well overseas.

It has a higher market share than Apple in several European countries and it is also killing it in emerging markets. Buying Nokia was a great decision. Their phones are in line with the best on the market and given time, Americans will figure that out too.

I have not messed around much with the Windows phone OS, but I love Android and its open architecture so I'm not sure I'll ever end up on Windows in a mobile environment. As far as Apple goes, I refuse to pay big money for substandard hardware in order to get an "Apple" logo.

Android is awesome as long as you stick to higher end hardware. It sucks if you buy cheap Android phones.

Low end Windows phones operate better than low end Android phones.

I mainly just wanted the Windows phone for the camera.
