So Who's leaving for the Sun Belt? - WKUFan518 - 05-09-2014 10:27 AM

Sun Belt posters have started a thread in which they believe they can snag 2 or 3 SB teams back once the new TV deal is renewed and worse for CUSA members....This makes for some comical reading...

Not to say we are that far above the Sun Belt, but I would say there is for sure a gap and will always be one once the SB is forced to continue to always grab FCS move ups....No one in the SB in their right mind would turn down a CUSA invite no mater what Ark. St. fans tell you otherwise.....I think CUSA will always be able to pluck from the Sun Belt....

I'd encourage you to read the thread. This characterization of it is inaccurate for the most part.

The SBC kept its last several champs, its bowl winners, and attendance leaders....so that may be a bit of an exaggeration.

Would a single one of them turn down an invite to CUSA?

Don't know, but I'd say such a decision would be tougher than it was last year which would have been tougher than it was the year before. We will see how the trend line develops.

With very little separation in revenue from the playoff between the G5 schools and an unknown future with TV deals, the only place to gain a signficant advtange is going to be through basketball.

And I believe C-USA is going to be a much better basketball league than the Sun Belt and has a chance to be a multi-bid league if it can get its act together with scheduling. C-USA used to be in an advantageous position primarily because of football but it looks like the leagues best position is going to be basketball going forward.

The gap is far narrower between SBC and CUSA than it has ever been. You can't live off the perception of the old CUSA forever. It has a short half-life.

In any event you get the last word on your own board and I'm heading back to ours.

Cheers.

Nope. The fact they have to consider Liberty, EKU, Lamar, Coastal Carolina for a 12th member is all you need to know.

RE: So whose leaving for the Sun Belt? - WKUFan518 - 05-09-2014 11:57 AM

I didn't make up the thread from the SUn Belt board.....A poster even thinks UAB or a "Texas school" will eventually end up in Sun Belt.....Appropriate the thread was created by an APP St. fan.....Just reading from the majority of their fans both App St. and Ga Southern are expecting to dominate in football almost day 1 and become a FBS G5 power....Granted both have had great FCS success just find all of the talk from their fans nauseated especially considering they are not even members yet of conf and have not played a single down of FBS football yet......I will be interested to see how both schools make the move up, I suspect its not going to be as easy as they seem to think, but hey we will see...... its the off season!

Happy Appy fans think they are Alabama north, it's best just to smile and move on.

Yea, after all it is the off season and it makes for very entertaining reading to see how delusional people really are...

Answer: Just another weak League. Or weaker.

Everyone knows both those schools want out. No secret there.

We're in the former Sun Belt. I see little difference between the two conferences, whether Rice is now forced to associate with La Tech, Middle Tenn or ArkState and ULL.

Which is why I hope the remaining CUSA 2.0 (UAB, USM, UTEP, Marshall, Rice) get out of CUSA 3.0 ASAP.

What do those 5 have that Tech and MTSU don't?

In MTSU's case, not much, beyond a historically higher position.

In Tech's case, we have on our side history, tradition, fans, money, location, self-esteem, indoor plumbing, genetic diversity, sense of pride in a job well done, good will, hygiene, a good close shave, etc.; you get the idea.
