Louisville has signed a five-year, $40 million shoe and apparel deal to remain with adidas, sources told ESPN.com on Thursday.

The deal, through the 2018-19 school year, ranks among the nation's top five shoe and apparel deals for all college programs. Louisville has been affiliated with adidas for the past 16 years.

Louisville, which has been with adidas for 16 years, has signed the shoe and apparel company to a new five-year deal worth $40 million.
In January, Notre Dame and Under Armour announced a 10-year deal worth $90 million, the nation's most valuable, sources told ESPN.com.

Louisville's $8 million per year deal is slightly below Notre Dame's, but similar to that which adidas signed with Michigan (10 years, $82 million).

Louisville's brand has increased dramatically with the Cardinals' recent on-field success. In the 2012-13 school year, Louisville became the first school to win a BCS bowl game (Sugar), have both its men's and women's basketball teams in the Final Four (the men were NCAA champions) and have its baseball team reach the College World Series in the same season.

On July 1, Louisville will move to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Better than Oregon.. Only reason they get that money is because of Uncle Phil.

$9M per year to Notre Dame (Under Armor)
$8M per year to Louisville (Adidas)

Sounds like team jerseys are going to get way more expensive!

Nike's going to have to put out or they will start losing schools over that type of money.

You have to think that UL has the best deal in the nation. Sure, it's mildly less than Michigan and a million less than ND, but it's a lot shorter and the value of these deals is going through the roof. I can see UL's ten yr average being north of 9 million over the next decade.

I wonder when Syracuse renegotiates, and what we're making now.

Notre Dame and Louisville fans, what is the valuation breakdown between cash and merchandise? In past years 75-100% of the yearly "revenue" was nothing more than free athletic apparel for the school's teams. I have to assume with figure in the $8-9M/year range that ND, UL and Michigan are receiving 50/50 splits, or more.

EDIT: I see Michigan was already making $3.8M/year in cash to $2.2M/year in apparel prior to re-upping with Adidas.

Good point. I guess if you're going to have a different uniform every week, that could add up quickly.

On the other hand, Nike should pay Syracuse more cash and give the old unis back, IMO...

True. I think they should also have to cut a check to every poor soul who had to see the monstrosities that Nike insists that we wear.

Very nice payday for the Cards! I see two things in play here: 1) Thank you again to Tom Jurich, and 2) Contracts are rising and UofL is re-upping at a good time. I wouldn't be surprised if this deal falls out of the top 5 in the next year or two as some other top end athletic departments have their contracts end.

under the old deal, U of L’s merchandise allotment was $2.2 million (retail value)for 2012-2013 — while its cash figure was $350,000 for 2012-2013 for a total deal of $2.6 million. Going up to $8 million a year, I would assume more cash this time unless merchandise prices are going up significantly.

RE: Louisville Renews with Adidas for 5 years $40 Million.... - Wilkie01 - 04-17-2014 01:25 PM

The 5.4 million increase from Adidas plus the 13 million increase over the Big East is going to give Louisville a 18.4 million increase in revenues next year. Sweet! 07-coffee3
