OT: Star Wars Episode VII - herdfan2013 - 04-16-2014 07:06 PM

I know there was a thread on this a few months ago but couldn't find it. And since there's a thread on Godzilla I feel okay in posting a thread on a movie that isn't set to be released for 20 months. But there have been a few updates. The only actor that has been confirmed is Peter Mayhew reprising his role as Chewbacca. Ford, Fisher, and Hamill are all likely to be in the movie, but it hasn't been confirmed. There has also been talk about Billy Dee Williams (Lando) and Anthony Daniels (C3PO) coming back. Even flakier rumors have said that dead Obi-Wan could be played again by Ewen Macgregor (I wish it could be Alec Guinnes) and dead Yoda could be voiced again by Frank Oz, but I don't think we'll see either character in the movies.

JJ Abrams will be directing, John Williams will do the score, and George Lucas will have minimal input. All-in-all, it sounds like it's going to be much more like the originals than the prequels.

Is anybody else excited about this movie or did the prequels take all the wind out of SW's sails?

RE: OT: Star Wars Episode VII - herdfan2013 - 04-16-2014 07:08 PM

Also, Adam Driver is said to be the frontrunner to get the villain's role. Another rumored cast member is Gary Oldman who has played in just about every other epic series so why not?

Prequels or not... there is no movie I am looking forward to more.

I like the prequels better.

You're either younger than 16, saw the prequels first, or both. Not bashing. I don't hate the prequels as much as everyone else, but the originals were better.

I'm 18 and did watch the prequels 1st. Darth Maul is my favorite character.

Close enough. My wife watched the prequels first and thinks the same thing. The effects of the prequels were far and away better, but the prequels just left too many holes in the story and had some questionable elements, most notably Jar Jar Binks and midichlorians. (JJB was stupidly racist and the force was better as a mystical thing. It didn't need any reasoning or explanation.) Also, they should have focused more on the clone wars instead of leaving that for the cartoon.

So, a movie coming out in a few weeks is the same as a movie coming out in a year and a half?

Its Star Wars. I'm surprised this wasnt started a year ago. Can't wait. Prequels be damned.

I've never been impressed with JJ abrams. I hated his star trek reboots. Of course the movie versions never really did their shows justice either.

I haven't been impressed with J.J. Star Trek movies either. I think he's a bit overrated and will probably f'd up Star Wars. I'm glad Abrams is not doing the next Trek.

Hopefully they develop characters, have engaging dialogue and story lines, and not just a bunch of holy **** explosions and fight scenes. I'm pretty over the Transformer, Pacific Rim, Battleship, bull crap. My head hurts trying to watch all the "amazing graphics" going on. Yes, they are visually stunning. But that only keeps my interest for a few minutes.

I think I now know what Astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) felt like at the end of "Planet of the Apes."

It's an age thing. Basically, folks that were a teenager or younger when the prequels came out tend to like the prequels better. Us old farts tend to look at them as an abomination.

He's not doing the next Star Trek!? That's fantastic news, as that first Star Trek movie of his was absolute ass. I didn't even bother to watch the second one.

Will the next one continue the reboot universe he's created or start fresh?
