Top non-BCS schools: Boise State led way

What about the little guys?

That's a question that will need answered with the four-team playoff coming to college football in 2014. Will a Boise State or Central Florida ever get a chance with the new format?

The non-BCS schools certainly made an impact in the BCS era.

Here's a look at the Top 25 non Power 5 conference teams from the BCS era. A few qualifiers:

#5 isn't bad at all considering the drop off we had toward the middle of the 00's.

Same thoughts here...2nd in total bowl games after two years of 1-23 is telling. If you begin at 1996 instead of 1998 and end it at 2011 it's probably us and Boise then everyone else in win % even though I am only guessing that would be the case.

The list really isn't accurate as it included AAC teams who were in the Big East at the time. So they weren't in a non-BCS league at the time.

Also not accurate because they clearly didn't factor in strength of schedule.

Interesting that you mention that. So many of these types of articles have major factual errors that one wonders how much "research" really went in to them. But, when one stops and thinks about it, these stories are usually nothing more than fodder for sports forums like this one and are designed to generate click counts for charging advertisers.

We should start our own series of articles. Lotta guys here are a lot smarter about sports and write better than some of those 'professionals'.04-rock

Marshall, by far the best bowl record at 8-1. That's a lot better than 3-7 with a comparable bowl line up. SOS, ha.

You're correct, an 8-1 bowl record is better than a 3-7, congratulations you've earned a unc afam degree. Funny I used to give you the benefit of the doubt because you'd point to someone's trolling when I called people out on the pointless bickering. Nice bait, im sure someone will take it. Congrats on a great bowl record.

There is a pretty big drop off after Boise.

We had some really good games against no. 2 on the list. FSU came to Ruston ranked in the top 20 in 2004 at 3-0 with blow out road wins against Washington and Kansas St. At that time they had a really good defense and I remember watching them beat down KSU on TV and thinking it would be an L 2 weeks later in Ruston. During warmups they ran right through our team and started a fight. According to a couple of friends there after the teams went back to locker room before kickoff the Tech locker room sounded like thunderstorm inside. We won 28-21 and it started a rivalry during our time in the WAC.

Baseball? Softball? Track and Field? It's not 7-1-2014 yet. Take your pick.07-coffee3

Who is mt losing this may? They were a really physical, tough team. I can see good things brewing...I know mt and wku hate eachother. That will be a fun game.
