UNC academic scandal could get Congressional hearings - CommuterBob - 04-09-2014 01:36 PM http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/08/us/unc-academic-fraud-investigation/index.html Quote:A U.S. congressman is questioning whether the NCAA failed to hold the University of North Carolina accountable during a 2012 academic fraud investigation and is demanding answers from NCAA brass. Oh, and it gets better... Quote:Meanwhile, the Student-Athletes Human Rights Project has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education over UNC's paper classes. The student-athlete advocacy group, based in Durham, North Carolina, alleges the classes violated Title IX because the number of male students taking them was disproportionate, and Title VI because too many black students took them. Quote:Two former college athletic officials-turned-reform advocates -- Gerald Gurney at the University of Oklahoma and David Ridpath at the University of Ohio -- also recently began reviewing academic fraud cases for which the NCAA handed down punishments, comparing them to UNC. They believe the data will demonstrate that the NCAA is ignoring the problem. I would love to see Emmert squirm while being grilled by Congress on C-Span. Could be as epic as Rafael Palmiero or Mark McGwire. RE: UNC academic scandal could get Congressional hearings - David Krumudgen - 04-13-2014 02:25 PM Every time I see these mega conference Mergers I just laugh. The NCAA has said one auto bid Per conference. That's why MWC and CUSA did not merge. So a 8 team conference = 1bid A 20 team. Still = 1 bid Also in all of the conference shuffle Over the past 5 years not one Merger of 2 conferences took place Each school was invited individually RE: UNC academic scandal could get Congressional hearings - Native Georgian - 04-13-2014 02:38 PM (04-09-2014 01:36 PM)CommuterBob Wrote: I would love to see Emmert squirm while being grilled by Congress on C-Span. Not sure if Cardenas (freshman member of the minority party) has the clout to make it happen, but I'm sure rooting for him on this one. If they stay within the NCAA maybe they go to 16 each, but I doubt they get any larger than that. Back to the thread, there is a great disparity in the way the NCAA investigates everything, not just academic issues. It's about time an outside source to a look at everything.
