As much grief as Stuke has received over the last few years about the lack of quality coverage, I must say that the coverage this spring has been really good. Perhaps it was the complaining that helped, but I'm glad to see the increase in coverage these past few weeks.

I think writers want to write, it's someone's decision as to who gets the ink every day.

Very nice primer for our fans. I'm excited about the game Friday night.

Ready to see how the team looks. We have a lot of talent returning.

.......Paxton Lynch, the 6-7 strong-armed Floridian, won the job last August by beating out the wildly popular Jacob Karam, the 2012 starter and a charismatic leader. Karam completed his eligibility last fall and No. 3 QB Eric Mathews is transferring after this semester to play his final season elsewhere. Mathews is not practicing this spring.

What that leaves is the improving Lynch as the only QB on the roster to have taken a snap at the FBS level.

.....Brandon Hayes, the team's leading rusher the past two seasons, was granted a sixth-year of eligibility during the offseason and will bring a veteran's much-needed poise to what will be a young backfield. Doroland Dorceus, Hayes' backup, will be a sophomore, and Tearris Wallace, who has seen significant work in the spring, will be a redshirt freshman. Dorceus has a punishing style, but must cut down on fumbles.

Sam Craft can play multiple positions - backfield, slot, whatever is necessary.

Would have thought we'd hear some noise about QB Brayden Scott

In a 3-4 alignment, this is a key position for the defense. Sophomore Jackson Dillon, who plays the hybrid linebacker/defensive line Dawg position, is a future all-conference player. Senior Charles Harris is as dependable and productive on defense as Hayes is on offense. Tank Jakes and Ryan Coleman have been playmakers, too. Harris, Jakes and Coleman are seniors and could make what has been an improving Tiger defense one of the nation's 25 best in 2014.

Fuente has spent the spring trying to identify two safeties to replace Lonnie Ballentine, a possible NFL Draft pick next month, and Anthony Watson. Fritz Etienne and Reggis Ball seem to have gained the upper hand. Bobby McCain (who had six picks in 2013) and Andrew Gaines return to anchor the corner spots.

Very seasoned defense. Projected mix of starters: 8 Sr, 2 Jr, and 1 So.

When Bobby McCain was healthy, the defense was so good.

Thanks, Hartless! I look for good things from both Etienne and Ball. I had a nice chat with Ball at the game. He is a very nice guy and full of enthusiasm, a lot like his older brother, Marcus, who has now gained a spot with the Saints.

Bobby always has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, and seems to be the vocal leader of a good defensive unit. He's turned into one of my favorite Tigers of all time.

The Kid is respectful and has good energy. He is very active and quick to the ball he will make some noise.
