It's official. Taylor Bessick is leaving JMU . He just received his realease papers and he's able to talk to all schools except CAA

I beleive the University has to give a written release in order for the the player to start talking to other institutions and transfer.

Bessick was asked to essentially be our sole post presence at the beginning of the season. He was unprepared for that from a physical standpoint and probably lacked the skills to do so, as well. Had he been able to come off the bench for a couple of years, I think that we all would have felt differently about him. I wish him the best of luck wherever he winds up (as long as it's no UVA - and maybe ODU)

Maybe I am missing something, but does anyone expect Bessick to land at a school as a scholarship player in the ACC or even C-USA?

If we also lose any of the remaining raising Juniors this offseason then I will no longer be in the Brady camp.
Did Brady sign a three or a four year contract extention last year? It appears we will not be exercising the change of conference extension clause in his existing contact this off season either.

Yeah get out of here with the UVA/ODU stuff. I would be surprised if he has options we find appealing. I don't understand why he would leave, if he improved it all there are plenty of minutes to be had at JMU.

Nick Sunderland from the DNR (on Twitter) states: "I did speak with Bikramjit Gill (Owens CC) and he said JMU coach Matt Brady offered him a scholarship late last week." Also: "Entering this offseason, JMU -- with commitments from Hari Hall and Dante Sterling -- had no available scholarships to offer."
The decision to release was probably mutual, and my letting go of Bessick we're freed up to offer Gill.

Judging from Gill's highlight tape, he does not seem like much of an upgrade to Bessick and seems to have a lower ceiling. He looks like another Dimitrije Cabarkapa.

It's too bad it didn't work out, but this is the world of major college athletics. If we do indeed go FBS, we'll likely lose 5-8 guys on the football team virtually every year.
Bessick is from PA, so I assume he'll likely find a home in the MAAC...probably in a similar role to what he had here.

There's now one open scholarship JMU08. It can be filled by Arledge if he decides to come to JMU.
