Bracketopia - FenderStratCat - 03-21-2014 07:17 PM

Was going to call it "Bracketville" but that sounds too much like a hated rival. Watching the Shockers smoke Cal Poly, which they should. I got them in my FF. Was SO close to picking Mercer over Dook, but chickened out like a wuss. Called the UD win over 0$u. Co-workers asked me "so, who is your fall-back team?" after our loss, "who will you root for?". I'm like "what do you mean? That's it. There's only the brackets now". haha

A lot of peeps said SF Austin would give VCU problems, so far that's the case. Got coach Smart going for a few games. Loved his pimpsmack of coach K about his A-10 comments.

Who's your FF? This is the first year that I only filled out 1 bracket, so...got two #1s, a #3, and a dark horse #4:
Florida
Wichita State
Iowa State
San Diego St.

It will prolly be UL and Mich St., but who knows?

Uhh I had Florida and Duke in the final game. Along with Wisconsin and Mich St.

Down goes Duke. But depending on your pool size, getting 3 or even2 of the FF right can win your bracket...I know eternal optimist. Hope you had Florida winning over Duke. haha

Co-worker said that Duke losing to Mercer prolly killed 98% or more of the billion-dollar bracket game. Love it.

RE: Bracketopia - Cataclysmo - 03-21-2014 09:07 PM

I have Wichita State winning it all. Everyone keeps saying "they havent" played anybody and i guarentee those same people did not watch them play once all year. They are essentially a better version of the UC defense with an adequate offense. And they have multiple seniors. All the pieces are there for a big run in march.

RE: Bracketopia - Bearhawkeye - 03-21-2014 09:09 PM

I'm not a conspiracy guy, but a technical on UK's opponent because a reserve walk-on dunked in the lay-up line BEFORE the game even started? C'mon! 03-lmfao

RE: Bracketopia - SuperFlyBCat - 03-21-2014 10:08 PM

I like MSU and Arizona.

RE: Bracketopia - Billy_Bearcat - 03-21-2014 10:24 PM

St. Louis the only 5 seed to advance. I thought they would be the most likely 5 to lose.

SLU was the 5 I had losing too. They really should've lost but outlasted a team with no legs because they played two days earlier. They don't get past their next opponent.
FWIW I think their costumed mascot is really creepy and so is Providence's

Regarding the Friars, I did feel very sorry for Providence. They pushed UNC to the wall and lost at the end. Bryce Cotton is a great player and plays with a ton of heart. They said he has played every minute in 21 of their games.

RE: Bracketopia - BC516 - 03-21-2014 11:18 PM

It has gotten to the point where I really wonder whether the committee deliberately designs the 5-12 matchup to be upset-centric. Only one five seed has advanced in each of the past two years.

RE: Bracketopia - mac6115cd - 03-22-2014 04:43 AM

If I count correctly, in 8 of the first 32 games, the lower seed won - Pitt, SF Austin, Dayton, Stanford, Harvard, N. Dakota St, Tennessee and Mercer. I cant remember the last time 25% of the first (now second) round games were upsets.

I hate to see it happen to the Bearcats but this is becoming the new norm.

This just reinforces the notion of parity in college basketball and why it's the best amateur sport.

RE: Bracketopia - rath v2.0 - 03-22-2014 09:18 AM

I have not watched a single minute or looked at my bracket since the Haaavard game ended.

It's now football and baseball season.

I thought the same thing when I'm hearing Harvard was really like a 6 seed.

RE: Bracketopia - FenderStratCat - 03-22-2014 09:30 AM

Georges Niang's injury for Iowa St. is probably going to sink my bracket as I have them going to the FF. He's basically their best player. Is opening day or the Masters here yet?

It's been a great tournament so far. Really fun games. The SLU/NC State game was awesome. The North Dakota State v. NC State game was the same. Duke/Mercer was a great way to start the day yesterday. I'm really excited for all the games today.
