This Chris Hawkins guy - Tigerbluesky - 03-19-2014 07:46 PM

Is the real deal. Recently saw him play and he reminds me of PJ Tucker from Texas back in the day. Tremendous athlete with great driving ability, midrange game, and decent handles. Improving outside shot I'm told by those in attendance. This kid isn't a role player. He will compete for the 3 next year imo. King still has to improve on going to right and handles but will have the experience.

I'm starting to think the same way after seeing this guy play.

I didn't want to say it but since it's out there I hope undo pressure is not put on them. Just imagine if they can hit outside shots what Shaq and Austin can do down low.

RE: This Chris Hawkins guy - 450bench - 03-19-2014 10:34 PM

Yeah, this guy is a player. Good with either hand and can get to the rim at will. Stupid hops for a 250 pound man. And he is much a man. Intimidating presence.

First time I saw him Marcus Smart came to mind.

Thanks for the report.

So, because there are "reality shows" , Is that the way life really is?

It's amazing how some can neither accept or speak the truth....Well allow me to give a brief tutorial: It all begins with being honest with self....

News bulletin: Shaq has "0" (bad footwork; No post moves; No post awareness;ETC) post game and it's going to take some work for him to develop that! And that's all I stated below:

Not trying to be rude, but it's going to take a lot for him to be productive in the paint

That's is constructive criticism; It's going to take work....Is he up to it? Remains to be seen.

Honesty and realism, I understand that there is little in the world that we can consider real; but FYI; I will always be real and true; to myself first and foremost....Count on it!

Shaq definitely has areas needing improvement.

Having said that, he is probably the most improved player on our team. He made the AAC second team, probably pre-season first-team for next year. He dedicated the off season to get in better shape, and that has made all the difference this year. Honestly, he has shown that he can and will work on his weaknesses. If I had to bet, based on past experience, I would bet that he does what is necessary to improve.

As for your characterization that he is not productive in the paint...good grief.

RE: This Chris Hawkins guy - 450bench - 03-22-2014 06:07 PM

Shaq has a mild case of skillet hands. He has certainly improved though.

RE: This Chris Hawkins guy - 80sTiger - 03-22-2014 11:15 PM

I'd love to see him create some kind of set of 'go to' moves in the off season. Just making layups off guard penetration isn't quite diverse enough.

RE: This Chris Hawkins guy - NigelTufnel - 03-22-2014 11:20 PM

I thought this thread was about Hawkins? Any video to back up the optimism?

Oh sure, the guy isn't great yet or anything, but he is definitely better than he was and he is very productive in the paint. Since he worked so hard last off season I'm assuming he'll do it again.

Do you realize that some games he(Shaq) has had just as many, if not more TO's than our guards. Just because he has 10 points doesn't translate to being productive in the paint. Most of his points have come off of steals from transition turnovers; or alley oops. That's not paint production! We also don't see many offensive rebounds or putbacks by Shaq either. he often gets outrebounded by Nick King, when Nick King plays a third of his minutes... I have seen him one time this season; catch the ball near the paint; wait for the defense to show; then back his man into the post and complete the shot. That was against Austin Peay,(If I remember correctly) How often have you seen that happen? He is literally throwing the ball up with absolutely no idea of where the ball is going.

And believe me, I am not trying to bash him, but until he develops a definite post move that is consistent and refrain from fumbling the ball out of bounds or getting his shot pinned in his face because he doesn't understand how to utilize a pump-fake to gain an advantage over the defender......he should be relegated to hustling for rebounds to get his points...He has no go-to post move. If he does, please provide some footage that he can complete this move on a consistent basis with a defender present.

I totally understand that we have not had the luxury of having a post-player with post skills(until Austin Nichols) and if you don't think that there is a difference in the post-play/production of Austin compared to Shaq. I totally see whats going on. But with the ineptness of Shaq's offensive production; we should focus on Austin Nichols touches, as his post efficiency is light years ahead of Shaq's....Especially when we have a lead....Austin is our bread and butter in the post....As once again Shaq has no defined post moves.

The reason why I am stating these fact. In order to win, you must play to your strengths....And unfortunately, at this moment. Shaq's post play is not a strength of this team. And if you happen to think it is...As my coach used to say....."You are fooling your damn-self"

^LMAO at this response, Eric. You go girl.

In classic MT.ORG fashion, Great8's rebuttal was based on false assumptions and false accusations of the other side's position.

Anyone who thinks a soph doesn't need to keep improving is just a fool. But of course him being flawless was never even close to being suggested.

Shaq has a nice, developing post game. Good passer and nice court vision working the high- low stuff with the other big on the floor. He also is a solid rebounded and finisher.

He has improved by leap and bounds since last year.

Not productive in the paint? That is just plain dumb.
